Advantages: It can be a relaxing way to unwind..

Disadvantages: Some take the type of music you like as a bad stereotype..

Most people that know me know I love my music, most of the time you cant move for new CD's or hear yourself think on a day where the house is empty for music..

It is fair to say I am a music lover!

My iPod is full to be honest and it's a very varied full iPod, it has everything from Miley Cyrus to Metallica on it..

However no matter how many different types of music I like, at school there was always a bunch of us that got called silly names for liking rock music.. Sad I know but its true..

Why does music have to define people..

It seems to me that if you walk the streets, there are certain people in certain clothing have a bad reputation and the majority of the time it rests upon the music they listen to.. Not wishing to be one of those type of people myself I do like some of the music they do.. Yet because I do not walk down the street with it playing out of my phone things are still muttered..

Similarly with someone I know who is a Goth and he is proud of his look, he has let his music be a big part of his life, yet when I have been with him and what he has told me that if there is a seat on the bus next to him people refuse to sit there because of the way we look.. It seems lots of people struggle to accept anyone beyond skin deep because of their love of music..!

People jump to so many conclusions due to the music you like, proves society to be a little strange to be honest.. Music should not define you, it just gives you an outlet.. Listening to music for most of us is enjoyable and maybe even therapeutic!! I have been known on occasion to drive in my car with my music loud but that doesn't mean I am a girl racer, like some assume..

Music is there to be enjoyed. Not to stereotype people about!
