As Christmas is just around the corner and Christmas thoughts are in our minds... i thought I would tell you all now about my best ever Christmas present.

As a child I had wonderfully magical Christmas' ... really idylic with midnight mass, gifts galore, wonderful food... the list goes on.

Then as an adult I became a little dissallusioned with it. I was earning a good salary and could afford pretty much what I wanted, when I wanted ... what was there to get excited about, other than a break from work and a few drinks and parties!

Then I got the very best Christmas present ever. In March 2001, at the height of my career, I fell pregnant . It was an easy pregnancy, baby was due on 14th December, all was going to plan... I continued to work and went or interviews.. striving to get to the very top at work. I started my maternity leave at the start of December, giving myself 2 weeks before my baby was due.

Well as with many first babies, due date came and went with no sign... the pregnancy dragged on ... I got bigger by the hour ... the usual!

Christmas eve came and baby was 10 days late. The dr talked of induction and booked me in for boxing day, telling me to go home and enjoy Christmas.

To cut a long story slightly shorter, My first daughter decided... with the threat of induction, to be born Christmas day .... and she really was the best Christmas present ever. Not just because she was my beautiful baby (though reason enough) but because she has transformed my life! My love of the rat race and career chasing has gone... I am a mum... simple as that. A mum defines me perfectly ... and that is why she gave me the best present.
