Yes I know: How could someone possibly be addicted to creme eggs? It all began in spring 1998 when I started having one with my lunch every day. Soon that grew to two and when I was given a dozen creme eggs for my birthday (I wonder why!) it increased further.

The next year was worse. A creme egg at lunch time, a creme egg at dinner time and at least one other. Allegations were made that I was addicted to them but I hotly denied them. I even attempted to give them up for a week to prove people wrong but I didn't manage the full week.

One that Autumn, I was protesting about these allegations to some friends. One of them said it was ridiculous to claim that someone was addicted to creme eggs. "You'd have to eat three a day to be addicted!" he said.
"I was!" I admitted. It was then that I had to admit my problem and in order to combat it I didn't eat any the next two years. Then I started eating the odd one now and again.

Last year there was a deal in a shop nearby: a bag of six for £1. How could I resist? I only bought the bags one at a time but I could finish a bag the day I bought them. And they're only around for part of the year so I've got to make the most of it and eat as many as I can in the time I've got.

The new season has started. I see them in shops. So far I have resisted but they're so tempting. There's that crunch when you first bite into it, the satisfaction when you get the "popping" sound. The contrast between the hard brittle chocolate on the outside and the soft smooth noughat inside. Nothing else quite gives the same satisfying taste and texture sensation...
