My experience of RedundancyNewest Review: ... the news he was being made redundant with immediate effect. To say my world seemed to cave in doesn't come close. It was incredibly unexpected and until we saw eachother that night the whole thing made no sense. A decision had been made to phase out jobs in the Scottish office over the next year to avoid making redundancies in London. I was staggered, shocked and pretty distraught. My partner on the other hand seemed to develop a passion and motivation I had never seen in him on the phone to recruiters and companies and generally displaying enthusiasm only reserved for Liverpool FC. I was impressed and still feel very fortunate ... more |

This is my first non dooyoo miles review but I felt it was important to share my experience to others. This review is not actually about me but my partner who is waking up today to his first day ever of unemployment following being made redundant. I will be using this review to offer some hints and tips on how you can prepare and also support one another during an inevitably stressful time, I can only hope some of you relate my comments and offer support to others that might be going through the same thing. **History** We have all been guilty of getting comfortable with our jobs, feeling as safe as houses and then along came the 'recession' and we all ... After taking a year off on maternity leave I decided I would return to work full time... - my husband had decided this all along, but I like to irritate him somewhat. Also, the compnay pauy a "return to work" payment - after being back from maternity leave for 3 motnhs you get 6 months worth of pay over the next 6 months. - Alot of money to forfeit if I did not go back. I had a meeting with HR and my line manager regarding flexible working. They finally agreed to allow me to change my hours from 8.30-4.45 to 8-4 with only a half hour lunch - no big deal there really. I also asked to work 2 days from home - i work in IT and can do my entire job from ... Read the complete review

What an awful topic to write about but as I've gone through redundancy twice (nearly three times) I thought it was time to share my own feelings and opinions! The first time I was nearly made redundant was when I was 18 and working as a secretary in a small law firm, they were downsizing and I was last one in, first one out basically. In the end after 6 weeks of not knowing what was happening they decided to keep me - however by this time I had already found a new job and had handed in my resignation letter. They weren't too impressed by me leaving, but considering they left me waiting around for such a long time I didn't really owe them anything. ... Read the complete review

Redundancy would normally be ok, were we not in the middle of a bloody recession! On the face of it you get some cash, get a new job, and move on. Except it isn't always that simple. I've been made redundant twice in the last six months. The first time it was ok because I have been there just 2 years and got a pay out, but that didn't last very long, and now I have been made redundant again and have no savings at all and can't find another job. The government are doing nothing to help at all. I have started claiming job seekers allowance, but that doesn't even come close to paying the bills. My husband is self employed, and his business is also struggling, and we ... Read the complete review

My experience of redundancy is based on my husbands very recent redundancy. I'll let you in on a few details about us so this review makes sense. Been with hubby for 10 years, got an 18mth old money eater (toddler), a morgage, finance on the car, an overdraft that we live in etc etc. Hubby has never been motivated enough to qualify in anything. He thinks that he's not intelligent enough for college etc but this simply isn't the case. He excells in practical tasks so would be best suited to a work based learning programme. Because of his lack of self belief he has gone from one manual job to another. Hubby was a removal man for eight ... Read the complete review
