My experience of RedundancyNewest Review: ... about the pay and so the overtime was soon dismissed as unimportant and we all continued tirelessly to work hard to keep on top of the vast amount of work we had. After 7 months I came into work full of beans our manager had told us as it was a Friday she would be treating us all to a breakfast. I should have known there was a catch...as we all sat around eating our sarnies and drinking our mugs of tea in hushed tones she told us that we would be going to a meeting and to expect the worst. She was a great manager and normally super squeaky clean and never told us anything that management was planning so we knew it must be bad when she t... more |

I worked for a company that was a subsidary of a major bank and had been there for 8 1/2 years. We had rumours that things werent going too well and realised very quickly that something was happening at our company. This I must point out was a year before recession hit, and my personal opinion was that our company were well aware of this imminent problem that would approach and based on the good salary and benefits we all appreciated that they could find a way to cut costs and maintain their profitablity. After several ''team meetings'' and amongst us we all began to ask questions and push for a decision. We felt like we were being kept in the dark and ... Read the complete review

A lot of people have shared their amazing stores about redundancy, but mine is slightly different in that I'm going to discuss how other people's redundancy affected me. My previous job was for an independent catalogue company. Literally the day after I started, the first person in the team got made redundant; however it wasn't a surprise (to everyone else) because the area in which he was working wasn't working out, and he'd only been on a temporary contract anyway. Since the team as a whole was close though, we were all surprised that we didn't hear anything about it until the director came in to say he was leaving. He then cleared his desk and left minutes ... This is my first non dooyoo miles review but I felt it was important to share my experience to others. This review is not actually about me but my partner who is waking up today to his first day ever of unemployment following being made redundant. I will be using this review to offer some hints and tips on how you can prepare and also support one another during an inevitably stressful time, I can only hope some of you relate my comments and offer support to others that might be going through the same thing. **History** We have all been guilty of getting comfortable with our jobs, feeling as safe as houses and then along came the 'recession' and we all ... After taking a year off on maternity leave I decided I would return to work full time... - my husband had decided this all along, but I like to irritate him somewhat. Also, the compnay pauy a "return to work" payment - after being back from maternity leave for 3 motnhs you get 6 months worth of pay over the next 6 months. - Alot of money to forfeit if I did not go back. I had a meeting with HR and my line manager regarding flexible working. They finally agreed to allow me to change my hours from 8.30-4.45 to 8-4 with only a half hour lunch - no big deal there really. I also asked to work 2 days from home - i work in IT and can do my entire job from ... Read the complete review

What an awful topic to write about but as I've gone through redundancy twice (nearly three times) I thought it was time to share my own feelings and opinions! The first time I was nearly made redundant was when I was 18 and working as a secretary in a small law firm, they were downsizing and I was last one in, first one out basically. In the end after 6 weeks of not knowing what was happening they decided to keep me - however by this time I had already found a new job and had handed in my resignation letter. They weren't too impressed by me leaving, but considering they left me waiting around for such a long time I didn't really owe them anything. ... Read the complete review
