My Top 10 Beauty Products
Advantages: Make me beautiful
Disadvantages: Cost me a fortune
I seem to buy so many beauty products but I still seem to stick to the same ones or go through phases. Here is my top 10 list of cosmetics that I couldn't do without.
10. Light Diffusing Concealer
Where would I be without my Yves Saint Lauren Touche Eclat? It really does work wonders on the old dark shadows. When my purse is feeling the pinch and I need a new one I use No7 Light Diffusing Concealer, which I have to say does pretty much the same job. Really opens my eyes in the morning, ready for the day ahead.
As I mentioned I love smokey eyes so a smokey eye palette is essential for me. I use Sephora Smokey Eyes Palette, which has a very dark shade, a grey shade and a pearly shade. I like keeping it low key in the day and using it to create cat-like eyes at night. Even just a bit of pearl on the brow bone or using the dark as a smokey eyeliner works wonders. Although it does depend on what I am wearing. Sometimes I go for browns and golds, usually of the light shimmery variety. For this I use Ruby and Millie eye palette as it doesn't crease and is not too dark.
8. Fake eyelashes
I LOVE fake eyelashes. I don't often wear them in the day but at night I love to wear them. I use Eyelure and they usually last me a few wears. I trim them down at the sides unless it's something like Halloween and I sometimes wear the more natural ones and sometimes the more dramatic ones depending on the look I am going for. Although not essential, I just love the dramatic look they give my eyes.
7. Fake tan
As I said I am white as snow so I like to tan occasionally. If it is a special occasion I will do it properly with the St Tropez Mousse. Although it is expensive it is worth it because being so pale you can really notice any mistakes. I can easily use this and it is not so dark and I can see where I am putting it as soon as I apply it. On other occasions when I can't be bothered I use Rimmel Wash Off Tan in Light Shimmer or Light Matte. Matte for the day and Light Shimmer for the evening. It is easy to apply and also I don't have to apply it everywhere.
6. Lip liner
I really think lip liner makes a huge difference to plumping out the lips. I also use a nude one and once again I differ with this but most of the time I use 17 lip liner. I find a nude lip liner works with all shades so i don't bother buying ones that correspond with lipstick shades.
As I emphasise my eyes so much I like to go for a more understated look on the lips and am faithful to Rimmel's Birthday Suit, which as you can probably guess is a nude lipstick. It doesn't last very long but I find that it is the only shade I really like that doesn't make my lips look to dark or completely washes my lips out. I like that it has a nice sheen to it as well. Sometimes I do go for a bolder look and ease down on the eyes and then I use Mac Neon Orange Matte lipstick. This does sound horrendous but actually it is just a bright red not orange. Or at least that's what it comes out as on my lips. I have to be careful to go for warm undertones rather than pink due to my skin hue so this seems to work pretty well for me and lasts for ages!
As I mentioned before I am a pale red head so a brush of bronzer never hurts. This is a product that I tend to mix up and I am not loyal to a particular brand as I find most of them do the same job. Usually I go into Boots and see what's on offer. I do like something with a slight shimmer but not over the top glitzy because it gives a healthier glow.
I love dark smokey eyes so eyeliner is one of my favourite weapons. I have bluey green eyes so dark eyes really suit me. I use Bourjois Kohl Pencil Liner in the day and often use GOSH liquid liner or Bourjoise Clubbers Liquid Liner in Ultra Black at night or for when I want a more precise look. I use the pencil under the eyes and flick it out in the corners to use as a guide to apply the liquid over the top lash line.
I don't have particularly bad skin but I find foundation really does make a difference to give that even look. It also seems to allow my blusher or bronzer to stay on longer. Although I don't use it every day I definitely would not go on a night out without it. I use L'Oreal Infaillable 16 hour coverage as I find it lasts longer and provides a good base.
Some of us are blessed with beautifully, long, thick, and dark bamby lashes. Unforunately I am not one of those people. Having red hair my eyes are white on the ends and auburn at the roots. Without mascara I tend to look a little unhealthy towards the albino end of the scale. I never leave the house without it on and even in the house it is one of the first things I do in the morning. There is nothing wrong with the length or thickness, they are just a little on the pale side. I use Bourjois Clubbers Waterproof Mascara in Ultra Black. It can be a pain to get off but it really does open my eyes even if I wear no other make up.
A few others that were so close to making it on the list were lip gloss (Ruby & Millie Hot Gloss), concealer (Sephora Concealer Palette), Too Faced Lip Injection Mask and Clarin's Beauty Flash Balm.
Summary: But I couldn't do without them
