Advantages: The flavours, The socialising,
Disadvantages: health if you overdo it, more expensive than regular lager
Inspired by reading this same review from mcicp19 off of my friends list, I decided to sit down and write a little something on one of my favourite pastimes... drinking.
For me, the days are long gone of drinking cheap crap lager; I like to think that there is a little class in the lager/beers that I choose these days, although, more likely, I am kidding myself there.
These are in no particular order:
>>> Hoegaarden <<<
Oh yum, this stuff is delicious although I find after three pints I am normally quite merry and need something less flavoursome. Hoegaarden (pronounced whogarden) is a white beer that is brewed in the De Kluis brewery in the town of Hoegaarden in Belgium. White Beer is not white like milk just really cloudy like a good cider. The taste is an acquired one but I find it delicious. The unique flavour is provided by adding things like wheat, coriander and curaco orange peels in the brewing process, absolutely delicious. This stuff is damn expensive in the pubs but you can pick up two 750ml bottles from Tesco for £5.00 at the time of writing. Volume is 5%. best served extremely cold.
>>> Kronenberg Blanc <<<
Another white beer, this one from the makers of 1664, another 5% volume beer, again containing coriander (although not as apparent in the flavour as Hoegaarden) as well as cloves and citrus which seems to be a common theme amongst white beers. If anything blanc is slightly smoother than hoegararden. Again expensive in the pubs but also on offer in tesco with 2 500ml bottles costing £3.00. best served extremely cold.
>>> Cobra <<<
This is another great tasting beer, served ice cold it is less gassy than a lot of beers out there and really goes down smoothly. The beer is a nice refreshing bright gold colour and has a light but hoppy aroma. A great beer when eating a filling Indian meal, this is another 5% strength beer and is available as cans, bottles and on draught.
>>> Corona Extra <<<
For me this is a light, refreshing beer that I never tire off, with a wedge of lime in the top the initial flavour is quite sharp but that soon gives way to a nice flavoured beer, although it can be a little gassy, especially towards the bottom, and if it starts to go warm then forget it, but they rarely get warm when I am drinking them. This one comes in a 4.6% and is noticeably lighter than the blanc or hoegaarden. This beer is Mexican and has been brewed since 1925, it is the best selling beer in Mexico and one of the best selling in the world and it is available in every pub in my area.
>>> Budweiser Budvar <<<
This is a gorgeous, Czech Premium Lager, again best served cold it is a 5% proof lager that tastes lighter than its percentage indicates. I prefer this in bottles although you can get draught. I read that there is a 700 year tradition of beer and that this lager is matured for 90 days. The taste for me never appears overly strong and is a delight to drink. Smooth on the throat this is definitely one to savour, don't mistake this ORIGINAL Budweiser for the American version.
So with my taste buds aroused I may need to grab a pub lunch this lunchtime.
