National Rail Enquiries Reviews

Newest Review: ... When I tried it once, and I have just tried a "dummy run" again, I have found it to be cumbersome and confusing to use and that the cheapest ticket it is offering is more expensive than I pay when buying it from my local ticket office. It might be that I need to spend more time studying the web site to fully understand the on line ticket purchasing process but right now I do not have confidence in it. As a whole I like the National Rail Enquiries web site and over a large number of uses the information I have gathered from it has always been 100% reliable.... more

I used to telephone National Rail Enquiries to ask for train times and to see if there were any engineering works that might affect my train journey. For the last 3 years I have just been using their website because it gives free access to all of that information and much more. It is easy to search for your train times and routes simply by selecting your departure and arrival locations and the dates and times when you want to travel. The results of your search load very quickly and you can then look at a breakdown of your journey. It is nice too that it shows departures before and after your requested one which are always useful to note ... Read the complete review

I put this review on 'First Great Western' last year when I complained about having to re-enter ticket buying details that you have already put on the NRE website when you have made your selection on NRE but FGW force you to put them in again: "I don't know if this is the Head Office address, but my main gripe is that when I'm booking tickets online through National Rail Enquiries you are then directed to the relevant Train Operator - which for my journeys down to Devon is First Great Western - and you have to start from the beginning with your journey and ticket request. I cannot believe i've just found this review site, fabulous!!Planned journey last week via N R enquiries website which gave incorrect information, (the service i asked for never existed!) ended up arriving @ Robbie Williams concert 2 hours late!! Have called them 3 times & they still are no further forward?? I shouldn't have any higher expectations of them, numerous times they've messed my journey up.

With constant delays, service alterations and cancellations, you cannot rely on the rail network to get you from A to B with no hassle. This is where the national rail enquiries come in. I have read the reviews on this issue and feel that a new updated version is needed as the rail enquiries have improved in recent months. The National rail enquiries is a service which provides train users with free advice on travel connections such as times of trains and the cost of tickets. This has been tranditionally provided via phone but recently new services have been added such as the national rail enquiries online and national rail enquires via wap (on mobiles) ... As an employee of the underrated NRE service I can honestly say that yes - wrong information is given unfortunatley on a daily basis. However - this is done by the minority of employees who are not properly checked and vetted. These people walk in - don't care what they tell people and walk out again - no problem that they gave 200 people duff information, no problem that someones daughter/son/mother/father/uncle/aunt/grandma/grandad is stuck/stranded/out of pocket/lost/confused etc etc it matters little to them. You all know the type I mean, every workplace has them. However the problem is that due to people like these NRE has a very bad rep. I'm sure that a ... Read the complete review
