Advantages: Quick Dispatch

Disadvantages: Website sometimes prone to crashing

The National Rail Enquiries website is great, it used to be bad in that it would freeze/time out all the time, or would display incorrect times, but recently those problems seem to have been corrected and now I find myself using it to buy tickets in advance and saving heaps of money!
A ticket from my local station to Cambridge would normally cost £64. I managed to get a ticket in the thirties by booking early with NRE! What's more, the dispatch of tickets is extremely rapid and they are normally always with you the following morning, providing you do not order tickets too late in the afternoon.
The website allows all the usual features of reservable seating and is advantageous, because you have plenty of time to consider the best route, unlike at the ticket desk where you are often pressured by a big queue behind you.
Discount rail cards can also still be used to gain discounts.
This is the best way to buy tickets nowadays!

Summary: My experience has overall been very good.
