Advantages: Good for the fitness levels, a good team sport

Disadvantages: Its a zonal sport, so if your not one of the two attackers you'll never get to shoot

When I was at secondary school I played lots of Netball. It was a great sport, which really helped to keep my fitness levels nice and high.

Netball has some parallels to Baskets ball. You have to get a ball into round net, you play on an indoor court and the team who scores the most nets wins. Its simple really and very enjoyable. However, their are certain court restriction on players.

The court is divided into thirds. Each player can only access certain thirds. For example, I was a Goal Attacker, which meant I could only access the centre third, attacking goal third and shooting curve area's of the court. More importantly it meant I was one of only two players out of seven who is able to shoot and thus score a net. If I'd have been a defender I would have found the sport very dull indeed.

I used to practice shooting on my brother's basket ball hoop for hours. I used to always tease him that basket ball was so much easier, as it has a backboard and netball doesn't. Thinking about it I should have demanded my own netball hoop, but I was never really that serious about the sport.

Unfortunately when I left secondary school I never continued playing netball and that was the end of it for me. I was ok at the sport, but never spectacular. My shooting was pretty accurate.

I'd recommend netball as a great way of getting and staying fit. It will also help you to learn about playing in a team and the social benefits that come with it.

Because of the many happy memories I have for this sport I award it five out of five Dooyoo stars.
