I have been fat and I have been thin. Weight is a weighty issue with me. FAT!! Yes, that is a singularly horrible word to use - it is also offensive, since it tells you nothing about the person or their intellect and with all the "isms" littering our language you would think that some of the laws on discrimination would apply to it! Look in any magazine or newspaper and you will find articles celebrating the thin or even skeletal. Even a positive role model like Sophie Dahl has been praised for shedding those "excess pounds".
