NHL in GeneralNewest Review: ... by a referee and two linesmen. Play begins with a face-off, when the referee drops the puck between the opposing centers and players attempt to gain control of the puck. Teams try to score through a combination of passing and shooting the puck with their sticks. If an offensive player precedes the puck into the attacking zone, the player is ruled offside, and a face-off is held in the neutral ... more |

ce Hockey, a fast-paced winter sport in which two opposing teams of skaters use long, curved sticks to drive a hard rubber disk into a goal guarded by the opponents. A rough, action-packed game, ice hockey is considered one of the fastest of all sports. The sport is played in about 30 countries, principally in North America, Europe, and Russia. It is especially popular in Canada, where the modern game developed. Equipment and Play Ice hockey is played on natural or artificial ice, on an oval rink that is usually about 200 ft (about 61 m) long and about 85 ft (about 25.5 m) wide. The rink is enclosed by a board wall about 4 ft (about 1.2 m) high. Two goal nets, ... Read the complete review

With the introduction of new expansion teams yet again into the already diluted talent pool, the NHL Brass had to come up with something to maintain the quality of play... The crackdown on obstruction and slashing has opened the game up and allowed the skilled players to shine like they have in years past. Although some people might argue that the number of penalties being called has actually slowed the game down, I beg to argue that the eventual benefits will far outweigh the current minor inconveniences. I know that the obstruction crackdown has occured in the past and never lasted the entire season, but this year the General Managers are committed ... Read the complete review

In 1997 I spent a prolonged holiday in Southern California. If that does not sound like the sort of place you would normally expect to see an Ice Hockey game you would be surprised, as it has now become a popular sport in warmer climbs like Los Angeles, Phoenix and Miami. I went to see the Toronto Maple Leafs play the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim at the Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim, and what a night I had. First of all I will tell you about the few pitfalls I experienced. Firstly the tickets were $23 dollars each, apparently the worst in the house. Add on a $3 charge from Ticketmaster and it was not going to be a cheap evening. Add in a charge for parking and ... Ice Hockey is a very rough sport. Even when both sides agree to play 'non contact', there is still a heck of a lot of 'accidental' hitting. A full suit of basicaly what is armor is required, but there are all different types and qualities. In some sports you can get away with cheaper equipment, but not here. The most important pieces of equipment (besides the box) are the helmet, the elbow pads, the gloves, and the shin pads. These are the areas that tend to get hit or fallen on the most. While it may be more comfortable to get lighter padding and cheaper to get padding not so well made, the first time you get hit by a serious slap shot you ... Read the complete review
