I have used various Nivea products for years. Facial moisturisers, body lotions, cellulite lotions etc. I have eczema and I thought the nivea was helping to moisuturise my dry sore skin. After years of waiting, I have just had allergy testing where my products were all tested. As soon as my dermatologist saw that I use Nivea she said it had several common allergens in it, and low and behold after 5 days of testing, I presented with a reaction to it!
My point is, that although the creams are good at moisturising dry areas, if you have sensitive skin, it may be causing irritation and eczema flare ups on a deeper level, so if you suffer from problems, and use nivea - perhaps try cutting it out of your routine and see if you see an improvement!
I'm surprised to be writing about Nivea in this way, as I have been a dedicated user for years. I am however committed to sharing my eczema related findings with the rest of the eczema sufferring community so feel it is my duty to report this discovery!
Nivea for men. Sensitive Balm After Shave. The first of NIVEA’s products was conceived in 1911. Since this time, NIVEA has become known throughout the world as a leader for its skin-care products. The word NIVEA is derived from the Latin word “nivius” which means “Snow White”. I am going to take a look at the NIVEA Men range, and in particular – NIVEA Men Sensitive Balm After Shave. I first decided to try this product when I began to realise that every time I shaved, and applied the usual smellies I would have a shaving rash for the next couple of days (which I didn’t consider to be very attractive!). I wasn’t sure that it would make any difference, but I was getting frustrated with my glowing red neck, so needs must. I had already become aware by this time that I seemed to be allergic to certain soaps, etc, so I decided that the Sensitive Balm was the guy for me. The packaging states that the balm is enriched with chamomile and vitamins and was alcohol free so it all sounding very soothing. The Look. This product looks exactly as you would expect. It is a thick milky balm that is white in colour. It is not greasy and is smooth to the touch. The Smell. Well this always baffles me. The packaging states that this product is Fragrance Neutral but there is definitely an odour to it. Having said that, it is a pleasant smell that leaves you feeling clean. The Packaging. I have purchased the 100ml bottle, but I believe that there are other sizes available. The bottle is white and emblazoned with the NIVEA Men logo, plus the product info on the back. This is encased in a box, which is again white, with the NIVEA Men logo and the product info (just in case you didn’t see it on the bottle). The ingredients also appear on the back of the box, and should be studied before use commences. The
Proof Of The Pudding. OK, so you don’t eat it, but as you apply this to your newly-shaven area you will realise it’s effects. It immediately cools the area and softens. You find that this continues, with re-applications, and that shaving-rash that we hate so much never rears its ugly head. The smell is pleasant enough that you don’t feel the need to apply some “proper” aftershave. So, Would I Recommend? Well, this really comes down to your skin type. There are other versions of this balm for differing skin types but if you don’t rash up as easily as I do, then you may not need this product. I have found that this product helps whether you have a wet-shave, or if you just run your electric shaver. Price. Well, at just over £5 it can seem a little expensive, but I use mine regularly and a 100ml bottle usually lasts me for around 2-3 months. Nivea is a name synonymous with various wonderful skin creams and my family has been using these creams since the last two generations. Whilst making my weekly shopping rounds I came across Nivea’s Deodorant range and picked up a Roll-On type especially for men called Nivea Deo Roll-On. Since my younger days and until now I have been using a spray version and have regularly been changing brands. I decided to try something new and because of Nivea’s overall reputation I had no hesitation, whatsoever, in trying out firstly their deodorant and secondly trying out the Roll-on type. I was pleasantly surprised at the ease in which this is applied. The fluid comes out evenly and easily through the plastic, ball like, applicator. The fragrance is also very pleasant and provides a long lasting effect and protection. I have now realized that the spray versions are more easily evaporated and thus the effect and life is considerably shortened. Nivea’s Deo Roll-On is also very good on the skin and is particularly suitable for sensitive skin. It does not contain any alcohol and thus the burning effect is substantially curtailed incase it mistakenly comes into contact with a part of your skin that might have a sore or cut. It also contains a chemical called Allantion, which promotes the healing of wounds and infections. So not only does it give you full protection against body odour but also a mild medicinal protection. I personally use the 50ml, all blue body, handy version, which is available at most shops. The only disadvantage is that the bottle is made of glass, which, if dropped, is certainly breakable. It also makes the bottle quite heavy. I would have preferred it being in a plastic bottle. Anyway this is just a minor issue and in no way diminishes my admiration for this product. This is a highly effective product made by a company of high repute and I strongly recommend this for all men espe
cially those with sensitive skin.
