Buses are then available across the road from the station to take you to Sixfields. The Ground ---------- Absolutely first class due to its surroundings. A new ground that has been built within a retail park. This gives plenty of choice when it comes to food and shopping while the ... more

Premium Review Northampton Town F.C.: Neat ground and quiet fans - An away fan's view. (812 words)

Once again I return to write about one of the many lower league football grounds as an away supporter, to give my fellow visitors an insight into their trip to Sixfields. Northampton Town are doing almost as bad as my team this season. Languishing in the relegation zone, there looks like very hope of sustaining their division 2 status this year. A lack of tactics, quality players and the need for cash has forced them to battle for their very livelihoods. Their poor playing level is papered over by a nice modern ground with good facilities. Getting there. -------------- (By car) From South. Up the M1 to junction 15a and follow ...  Read the complete review

One nil to the Canvey boys! (1073 words)

Poor old cobblers, up for sale and in desperate need of a cup run festering at the bottom of Nationwide Div 2.A hundred grand TV bonanza care of the BBC’s lucrative unused sports budget helped to pay their star players, although i use that word loosely. Gabbadini and Burgess share ten grand a week between them, which equates to the whole of the gate money for the season at Sixfileds. The remainder of players look to games like this to bring a little glamour to ease the pain of certain relegation. There couldn’t be a worse place to rock up at on a freezing cold Sunday lunch than Canvey Island. The sea breeze was licking their red raw ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Northampton Town F.C.: Will the glory of 1966 return? (538 words)

1966 will forever be remembered as one of the finest years in English football for this was the only year which the country's finest club, Northampton Town graced the top flight. With debts spiralling and the club struggling at the foot of Division 2 even the most optimistic fan must have difficulty imagining such a feat being repeated. In the late eighties the club had prospered under the management of Graham Carr promotion was comfortably achieved to the old Division 3, with over 100 goals scored in the 1986/87 season and 100 points being narrowly missed. Despite the County Ground being the laughing stock of the Football League (the pitch was on the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review We are better than you think (173 words)

It wasn’t long ago that Northampton were regular play offs finalist in the second division. The appointment of Kevin Wilson came at the right time last season and a good run. They had seemingly fought off every club in bottom two divisions to sign Marco Gabbiadini to play in partnership with Jamie Forrester (ex Leeds united), will be the two to fire them up the table. The goals will only come depending on winger John Hodge avoiding injury. The only down fall is that the squad is very small. Northampton is in 11th place after eight games played with 13 pts, and have only scored eight league leagues. Forrester scoring four and Gabbiadini getting one. They ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Northampton Town F.C.: Dream Ticket Strikeforce! (199 words)
by - written on 11/09/00 (Useful, 16 readings)

Jamie Forrester and Marco Gabbiadini arrived at Sixfields in the summer under a blaze of publicity and surprise amongst the football world, and they haven't let the fans down! Marco may not have repeated his goalscoring form that he was in at Darlington last season with only one goal so far, but his time will come. His link up play with Forrester and Howard has at times been top quality and his craftiness is a big advantage in and around the penalty box. Jamie Forrester has been a revelation, carrying on the form he showed in the loan spell at the end of the last season. Four superb strikes, one certain to win the club's goal of the month if not ...  Read the complete review
