This is one of the strongest divisions and has a suprise leader at this early point of the season with a runaway Ottawa Senators storming to victory. This is strange because they have not really been a force over the last few years. The big names here are the improving Toronto Maple Leafs who promise much every year but deliver so little and the Montreal Canadiens, otherwise known as the Habs. One of the ORIGINAL SIX teams in the NHL, the TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS hold a special place in the hearts of many Canadians. They last won the Cup in 1967, quite a while before my time. Since that year, the Team has had some good times and unfortunately alot of bad times. There have been some CRAZY owners, hostile takeovers and playoff defeats (lots of defeats). However, the team still manages to be the strongest market in the NHL. The arrival of Ken Dryden the team into a new era. The team ventured into the FREE AGENT market and signed the highly coveted Curtis Joseph. Since that signing, the Team has continued to improve every season.
