Advantages: Great new players
Disadvantages: not THAT much chance of getting to the playoffs.
i have supported Norwich City all of my life. I have had a season ticket for three or four years (in the Barclay end) and have cheered my beloved Canaries till my throat is sore. This coming season i would like to think that we have a chance of at least getting into the playoffs, what with the four new signings (Mark Rivers - Crewe, Clint Easton - Watford, Paul Crichton - Burnley and Neil Emblen - Wolves), but i don't know what kind of chance we stand!! I saw Norwich play at Fakenham (pre-season friendly) and they didn't look to bad but they weren't looking their best either. They struggled to get going before conceding, then picking it up a bit, Iwan Roberts and Mark Libbra (french trialist) picking up a hat trick each. At the end i thought the hadn't done all that badly...but not their best performance....
Of course with good old Iwan 'Gap tooth' Roberts up front, with Chris Llewllyn by his side, finally playing the role he wants to, we should be getting quite a few goals, with Phil Mulryne and Darel Russell and (maybe) Gary Holt in midfield providing the chances, and getting a few themselves. And then there is the defence which is looking quite strong. We have good old Malky Mackay and Craig Fleming in the centre, with Darren Kenton on the right and Adam Drury on the left, they are looking pretty formative, and they play together well. Lastly there is the goalkeepers jersey up for grabs it is a fight between rookie Robert Green and veteran Paul Crichton (he's 32!). I don't know who to back. It should be interesting.
Then of course there is the management and board. This is a bit of a focal point for a lot of fans at the FerryBoat or the Dragons cave, just a half minute walk from teh ground. A lot of fans seem pretty uhappy witht the board, but they are pretty happy with Nigel Worthington. His no nonsense approach to the game and maanagement amazes me. he is straight to the point not trying to make excuses and that
is what the fans wanted. Especially since he pretty much saved the team from teh depths of relegation last season, lifting team morale and making the players want to fight again. That is something that Bryan Hamilton didn't have. That coupled with the fact that he signed four players that were completely useless to the club (Raymond DeWaard, Fernando Derveld, Steve Walsh and Tony Cottee) all of which have either left or been released. That is one down point however in my image of Nigel Worthington. He has released Cedric Anselin, who i think is a class player, and sold Adrian Forbes, who i find equally as good. How could he do this?!?! the fans LOVED cedric and Adrian had the sort of speed that is VERY rarely seen in didvison one!! that and the fact he gave Matt Jackson a new contract then proceeded to let him talk to other clubs. That has dented my respect for him, but only slightly!!
That all said, i hope Norwich do well this season and i will be cheering you sll on from the stands!!!
