Nurburgring Circuit

Nurburgring Circuit ... name of a famous motorsport race track in Nürburg, Germany, built in the 1920s around the village and medieval castle of Nürburg in the Eifel mountains, which is about 70 kilometres south of Cologne and 100 kilometres northwest of Mainz. Originally, the track featured four track configurations: the 28.265 km long Gesamtstrecke (Combined Loop), which in turn consisted of the 22.810 km Nordschleife (Northern Loop), and the 7.747 km Südschleife (Southern Loop). There also was a 2.281 km warm-up loop called Betonschleife, around pits area. Between 1982 and 1983 the start-finish area was demolished to create a new GP-Strecke, and this is currently used for all major and international racing events. However, the Nordschleife is still in use; nicknamed The Green Hell by Jackie Stewart, it is widely considered the toughest and most demanding purpose-built race track in the world. In recent years, both the Ring and the Hockenheimring events have been losing money due to high and rising license fees charged by Bernie Ecclestone and low attendance due to high ticket prices; starting with the 2007 Formula 1 season, Hockenheim and Nürburgring will alternate for hosting of the German GP. Prior to the 2007 European Grand Prix, the Audi S (bends 8 and 9) was renamed Schumacher S after Michael Schumacher.

On the first day we visited the Grand Prix circuit for an Oldtimers' Grand Prix, a great experience, with a whole range of races and cars to watch. I came over all girly and liked the mini challenge, my husband liked the Formula 1 cars from the 70s and 80s. The sell good waffles too, ... more

I'll put my cards on the table, we did not drive round the Nordschleife. My husband did look tempted but we were travelling in the motorhome at the time, so I made him resist the temptation. We did however spend a night at the Nurburgring campsite (incredibly overpriced, but fantastically placed) and so spent two great days here. You can tell that you are heading somewhere unusual by looking at the cars around you on the road - there's an awful lot of money on the tarmac around Nurburg. On the first day we visited the Grand Prix circuit for an Oldtimers' Grand Prix, a great experience, with a whole range of races and cars to watch. I came over ...  Read the complete review

The Nürburgring (Nordschleife) Known as "the ring". We visit the Nürburgring once or twice a year now as my partner is a big car enthusiast and Loves to drive the ring (i have yet to do a lap) I will be reviewing the Nürburgring looking at the public access side. * History * The track opened in 1927, where the first German grand Prix started in July 1927. The track was opened to the public in the evenings and at weekends as a one way toll road. The Nordschleife has remained a one-way, public toll-road for nearly 80 years. Anyone with a road legal car, motorcycle, tour bus, motor home etc can drive on the road. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Nurburgring Circuit: 140000 German Fans. (375 words)

One fact that can guaranteed for the European Grand Prix at the Nurburgring circuit is that there will be a capacity crowd of 140,000 and most of these will be very passionate German F1 fans. There are a number of places around the circuit where the spectators can bring their vehicles close to the edge of the track. These areas are normally full of camper vans for people who stay for a week to watch the whole build-up for the race, and then have a great view for the main event. This circuit has traditionally led to exciting races as the set up of the cars is crucial. The different strategies of the teams and set-up of the cars mean that the lead often ...  Read the complete review

Slight change again for the race write up this time. There’s going to be less random stuff that there has been in previous reviews, mainly because I’ve been ill and moved house :(. But in order to please everyone, some information about the track is also going to be added! * The Track * “Oh but it’s not as good as the old Nürburgring, I mean blah blah blah blah”. How many times do I hear that? To many in my opinion. The old Nürburgring is just to dangerous for the speeds of modern Formula One cars, apart from that the costs of putting TV cameras, marshals, medical officers etc around the track would make it financially ...  Read the complete review

Definately one of the greatest tracks ever, well the old Nurburgring was, but todays new one is one hell of a track. Here's what happened in last years great race. Coulthard was the one to watch after bad luck in Barcelona following his plane crash. He had to take it easy though because of his injuries to his ribs and still managed to he beat Schmacher for first position in the qualifying. Hakkinen was third and Barrichello got fourth. Usually before the F1 race there is the formula 3000 and it demonstrated what the F1 race might be like. The formula 3000 cars had to put up with the rain which was forcast for the F1 race as well. Almost ...  Read the complete review
