OBESE CATS - WHAT CAN ONE DO?

I have two cats a Persian and a black (moggy). I love them both and am sometimes frustrated with my black cat called Saturn.

Saturn was over 6kgs until I found an amazing product called Advocate and also changed her food to Royal Canin. Mind you she does shed some pounds in the summer (every summer). She is now about 4kgs but has quite a lot of lose skin under her belly, this will never go but she does have more energy now.

Advocate kills flea larve, controls intestinal worms, controls intestinal worm larvae, prevents heartworm, controls ear mites. Unfortunatley you need a prescription, unless you do as I do and buy online (ebay) it comes from Australia. Having said all this it has really helped Saturn with her weight. Maybe cats that hunt get worms quicker and eat more then put on weight.

Stray cats tend to be more obese as they are not secure in knowing when and where their next meal is coming from so they ten to overeat. (In my opinion).

Saturn is a dominant cat and will be first to eat pushing Fred (my Persian cat) out of the way. It is funny to watch. Unfortunately you can't control how much a cat eats, as if like Saturn she eats out. I am often greeted in the morning with a mouse (THANK YOU). I only praise her for this as she is hunting for you and you should consider this a treat!! Yuk I know, but you must.

I have also recently bought a cat water fountain, which may help, as they are encouraged to drink more water. You will try anything to get your cat into shape, as you only want what's best for them. After all you don't see 'Fat Cats' in the wild. I hope some of this helps you.

One last resort of mine was last year I bought one of those cat harnesses, with the notion I could take her for a walk and hence she would lose a little more weight. Well, this is not a dog. It was hilarious, I put the harness on her and she decided not to move at all and under no circumstances, not even food would budge her. I pull her gently and she just slipped across the grass in a ball. This has to be done when they are kittens I think!!!

Good luck!!!!

Summary: TRY ANYTHING ONCE

Don't apologise for rating low. It's an opinion of yours. Some of you guys out there are very clever at writing lots and lots. I can only do what i can do. Thanks anyway ;-) X

Ha at the harness story. I decided to give this a go with my persian cat a few months ago. He just lay down and played dead.
