Organic Gardening in general

Newest Review: ... soil is aerated and not to compact, Plants will grow better in good structured soil. - If this is your soil it just needs a general organic feed every winter time that should keep it happy If the soil is clumpy or sandy like or even clay, the best way to improve it is to use bulky organic matter like horse muck, its easy to get hold of and the stable or farm will be happy for you to take it away free of charge. I would put on about 6 inches on the top then dig it in, don't do it all in one day take a break or you will get some blisters and back ache. Of course some herbs like sandy soil like the Orange scented thyme and some herbs like cl... more

Well after the herb reviews are going down so well, I was sat down and it dawned on me, what if all these people need to know about "how to make a herb garden"? So hopefully you will find this useful and hopefully help you on your way to enjoy the world of the herb. ***The Herbs*** The herbs have a history that is full of myth and magic and to be honest there is a lot of rubbish information regarding there properties. Most herbs that have been brought in to Europe were done so by the Romans, they brought herbs from Greece and the Mediterranean islands. Herbs are used in medicine and cooking and have been ...  Read the complete review

THE ORGANIC GARDENER AND HER DELIGHTFUL GARDEN A wander in the gorgeous organic gardens of Miss Katie Stu. I love my garden. Absolutely love it. The peacefulness, the colourful flowers, the joy of munching raspberries in the sunshine, to be fair, I don't even mind the creepy crawlies. Slugs, snails, spiders, frogs, all are welcome in my garden! Organic gardening is an area where I truly feel that size doesn't matter. My garden isn't huge by any standards, but I have designed it into spaces or "rooms" that flow into one another - so my wooded path curves through Goldenrod and scented pink Phlox, under an arbour covered in old ...  Read the complete review

Organic Gardening in general: ***Kill slugs***not birds*** (303 words)

I love wild life in my garden, but my slug problem has got out of hand. I hate using slug pellets for two reasons. Years ago, my dog (agreed, he was an absolute pig!)ate a load and died in agony. Rupert R.I.P. And slug pellets poison birds, as they eat poisoned slugs. So, I spoke to my mate Bryan, whose wife is in to all things organic, so he has to be! He told me about a place called HDRA. The Henry Double Day Research Association on the net. They have a retail partner "The HDRA Organic Gardening Catalog" and I have ordered "NEMASLUG". This stuff contains "Naturally occurring microscopic nematodes which seek out and kill slugs, ...  Read the complete review

My garden I love my garden, watching things grow flower and fruit. I love the things I find in my garden, the beetles, the hedgehogs, the frogs, the grasshoppers, and the butterflies. I garden organically for wildlife. When I was a child my father gave me a small patch of ground. Ok so I liked making mud pie?s and digging to Australia (I never got there) but I also loved growing easy flowers and vegetables and watching (catching) the insects. Now I am grown up (some people think I have not) I think it is important to garden in an environmentally friendly way, using no herbicides or pesticides much of our country side has been damaged gardens can ...  Read the complete review

I live on a council estate. You know, one of those run down, council don’t care anymore, community have to fight for everything places. There is graffiti and joy-riding, drugs and muggers, people forgotten by the system and some still busy falling through it. It’s a hard place to live and strange place – an estate perhaps like no other because within all the grime and dirt are people who are really willing to DO something – people who care about the area and won’t settle for second best. A few years ago, the council decided to close off the street that runs at the back of my house. The concrete was dug up and a strip of land around ...  Read the complete review
