Newest Review: ... took up the baton of reducing the hideous toll of driver deaths and injuries that plagued GP racing in its earlier years. Such awful sights as Ferrari's Lorenzo Bandini burnt alive in his car at Monaco (1967) must live with him to this day. In the car, Stewart was similar to Alain Prost, in that he relied on a precise, unshowy style rather than powerslides and manic oversteer. It paid ... more

... off, and his 27 race wins stood unchallenged for more than a decade, being surpassed only in 1987 when Prost recorded his 28th victory. Jackie intended for his 100th GP to be his last, but withdrew after the death of his Tyrrell team-mate, Francois ...more

Premium Review Other Drivers: Winning formula (2086 words)

Damn - there doesn't appear to be a "Top 10" section in the motor racing category, and there are no subcats in "F1 in General", where I already have an op. And Dooyoo aren't exactly responsive these days to adding "non-consumer" cats. So I'm going to have to stretch a point a bit and put it in "Other Drivers" - after all, most of the men I'll be mentioning don't have their own category, so I don't think it's too ridiculous to write here. This list, as all the best ones are, is informed by a healthy dose of personal prejudice - those who have read my other motorsport reviews will have an idea of ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Alex Zanardi (484 words)

Alex Zanardi first came to my attention as the team mate to my favourite driver, Johnny Herbert, in the Lotus Formula One team back in 1993. Back then he was known as Alessandro and I started following his career mainly because I liked his name. His first season with Lotus was brought to a premature end by a huge accident at Spa. Back in 1993, before the events of Imola the next year, everybody had become quite complacent about the dangers of the sport. Whilst I hoped that Alex would make a quick and full recovery I was thankful that Herbert had not been in the car. I had seen the incident on French TV and so wasn't sure who the driver was, and feared that if ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Other Drivers: ALEX ZINARDI - Terrible end to a great career. (663 words)

By now most people who are fans of motersport will know that a racing legend is currently fighting to save his life after a horrific crash in the champ car race at Eurospeedway Lausitz. The racing legend was Alex Zinardi who is thirty four. Zinardi had been leading most of the race and with not long to go, he made a pit stop. As he was exiting the pits he spun his car on to the track, Patrick Carpentier just missed him. Unfortunately Tagliani hit him at 190mph. Before the race had started the drivers and teams had a discusion about how to drive round the pit exit which is in the inside of the track. What they found out was, if you were on warm tyre's you ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Marques - Worse than the average rent a driver (369 words)
by - written on 29/09/01 (Very useful, 62 readings)
Rating:

Tarso Marques has only raced for one team in his entire F1 career - Minardi. The only reason they will take him is because he has money, and Minardi desperately need money. Marques is whats known in the business of F1 as a rent-a-driver. These drivers have massive sponsorship from someone, or are just born rich. An undefunded team takes these drivers on to try and boost some cash. Usually they are rubbish, though some of them turn out to be relatievely good. However, Marques is the worst I have seen for a long time. The only driver I can think of that was worse than Marques was Ricardo Rosset, but he at least provided some fun with his antics and was ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Other Drivers: A Tribute to the Career Of Alex Zanardi (733 words)
by - written on 16/09/01 (Very useful, 60 readings)

My heart sunk last night. It hasn't exactly been a good week, infact it's probably been one of the worst, but this just finished it off. I love motor sport, it's one of my passions. Nothing hurts me more than a racing driver being injured, even more so when it's someone I've seen a lot of and like. It hasn't been a good year or two for motor racing, all in all. Two marshals have died in F1 recently, one at Monza last year and one at Australia this year. Dale Earnhart was killed in the NASCAR series last year, and although at that point I had heard little of NASCAR I couldn't help being moved by the continued laps of silence the crowds have ...  Read the complete review
