A review from Mew - my life with mommy and daddy (Owning a Cat in General)

My mommy has told me that some of you really enjoy reading about me so I thought I would write a review for you to read. I often sit on mommy's keyboard when she is using her laptop so I am getting very good at typing.

I didn't always live here with my mommy and daddy I used to have another home but I can't really remember it. Anyway I was thrown out to live on my own on the Great Orme in Llandudno and I had to fend for myself.

One day I saw some people coming to the empty house near to where I was living so I decided to go and take a look at them. They seemed very nice and would give me some fuss and talk to me. I tried to get into their house with them but they wouldn't let me. I guess I must have looked quite dirty as I was living rough. I kept meowing at them so they would think I was cute but still no luck.

I kept going back to see them and I think I heard people asking if I belonged to them. I definitely heard the man who is now my daddy ask his wife if I could stay with them but she said no. I figured that if I kept going back and being cute she would change her mind. Incidentally she kept calling me Mew and telling people that was what I said that my name was!

Eventually she sat me down in the front garden and said that if I would be a good boy and make a fuss of her and be her friend she would allow me to stay and would give me nice things to eat. It sounded like a good deal to me so I agreed, but I had to go to the vet's first to be checked out. I wasn't sure that I liked the sound of that!

I got put in a box with holes in it so that I could see out and I was taken for a ride in their car to the vet's. I wasn't scared or anything and I didn't make any fuss even when I saw the great big dogs in the vet's waiting room!

Anyway the vet took me out of the box and had a look at me. At first she said that I was a little girl - the cheek of it - just because I am lacking in the dangly department! Then she realised that I was a little boy thank goodness. She took a tic off my face which had been giving me a bit of trouble and said I was fine so I figured that I was about to get a new home. I got back in the box and went home in the car.

This time I was allowed to go into the house that was to be my new home. It was very nice and my new mommy and daddy went out and bought a litter tray, a feeding bowl and some toys to make me feel welcome. They found some lovely soft cushions and covered them with a soft throw for me to sleep on - I figured that I was going to like it here!

They did try and think of a better name for me which was a bit silly as I had already told them I was named Mew but they gave up eventually and carried on calling me Mew.

I like living with mommy and daddy. I am not allowed to go upstairs although I do sometimes run up for a look round when mommy isn't looking! I am not allowed to jump on the work surfaces in the kitchen either.

I do have my own room on the side of the house with my bed, litter tray and food in it. Mommy and daddy even bought me a heater for when the nights are very cold. I have my own little door which has been fitted in the big door that mommy and daddy use. I can come and go as I like but it gets closed at night so that I can't go out.

I have a rocking chair in the lounge where I like to sleep but I also like to lie on the sofa next to mommy or daddy as well. When I lie next to them they fuss me a lot! I can also get lots of fuss by lying on the floor and looking cute - it works every time!

Daddy often plays with me by dangling string for me to chase or giving me a cardboard box and letting me jump in and out of it chasing toys. He sometimes plays at stalking as well and we chase one another round the house.

Mommy brushes my coat every morning so that I won't have as much trouble with hair balls - this makes me purr - it feels lovely!

I eat dry cat food made by someone called Whiskas and sometimes when mommy and daddy are going out they give me some cat food with rabbit in it and I love that! I think they feel a bit guilty about going out and leaving me so I get a treat - suits me!

I sometimes catch things to eat when I am out on the Orme as well. I lie in the long grass and creep up on mice, lizards and voles and catch them. I take them home to show mommy and daddy and then I eat them all except the bowel - mommy clears that away for me. I even caught a pigeon once.

Mommy and daddy took me back to see the vet as well to have something called a microchip put under the skin on the back of my neck. It didn't hurt me so I didn't make any fuss and mommy explained that it was so that they could find me if I ever got lost or hurt when I was out.

I went on my holidays last year to a place called a cattery. That was fun. I had my own room with under paw heating and everyone made a lot of fuss of me. I was pleased when mommy and daddy came home from Scotland though.

I really like living with mommy and daddy. My room is nice and they love me very much. I like my food and my coat is in much better condition now. Mommy still sometimes gets very sad because her mommy has gone to heaven so I try and make a fuss of her to cheer her up.
