Painting with your child is lots of fun, but sometimes it's nice to add a bit of variety. Here are some ideas.

* finger painting - just enjoying the paint on their fingers and splodging away

* cut out shapes from cereal packets and paint them (hearts, christmas trees etc)

* draw a picture with white wax crayon, when they paint over with thin poster paints the picture appears

* put a lot of paint on the paper (or on a glass chopping board), then draw in it with a stick / finger

* paint a house or a tree and give them coloured tissue paper in rolled up balls and see where they stick it

And here are some more crafty things, to make and paint:

* make a fish from a paper plate (cut out a triangle from one side and stick to the other side) and let them paint it or paste scales onto it

* paint a picture frame and fill it with a collage from an old magazine or catalogue

* make a princess hat out of a cone of card and some streamers, and paint the design on
