      worked for me!

When I discovered I was expecting my 3rd child late last year I decided that I would try and do all I could to look after my body and prevent too much damage to the skin from being stretched, my body had naturally seen some abuse as a result of 2 previous pregnancies and although I'd returned quickly to my pre-pregnancy shape with little signs of damage or stretch marks I could not guarantee I'd be so lucky third time round. I'd heard a lot of good things about cocoa butter and the Palmers range of cocoa butter products in particular and so decided to use one of their products on my skin throughout my pregnancy.

Palmers Massage Lotion is designed for use both during and after pregnancy and is also suitable for people loosing weight etc.. as it contains ingredients that help skin maintain it's elasticity, it also contains vitamin E which is often recommended for use on scars to help heal and reduce them. It is an all over body lotion containing Cocoa Butter, Vitamin E, Collagen, Elastin and Shea Butter which are aimed at lubricating the skin and helping it retain its natural moisture. The lotion comes in a 250ml white plastic pump style dispenser which is great for easy application, rather than pouring too much lotion onto your hand you can simply pump out the required amount cutting down on wasted product. Available from most pharmacies and online, I purchased my bottle from Wilkinsons for £2.99.

Palmers massage lotion is creamy coloured and of medium consistency, not too thick that you struggle to apply it but not so runny that it feels like you're trying to apply water to your skin. I only applied the lotion to my stomach and initially one pump was more then enough to cover the desired area, of course as time went on and my bump grew I had to increase the amount of product I was using. Once the initial shock of how cold the product felt on my warm bump had passed I was always aware of the fact that it took a while for the product to absorb and no matter how much I massaged it into my skin I could never achieve quick absorption, in fact I'd be left with my skin feeling quite greasy which is a sensation I'm not particularly fond of! Whether I applied it on a morning or evening before bed I always found it felt greasy which was very unpleasant to have to put clothes on top.

After using the product my skin was always left feeling soft and well moisturised, often pregnancy can leave a womans skin feeling taught, dry or itchy but I found when using the lotion my skin felt good and the itchiness was soothed. Fortunately the smell doesn't linger on your skin long, I found it quite unpleasant as far as it's scent was concerned, the smell of the cocoa butter being somewhat overpowered by the shea making it smell slightly gone off, not a nice smell for a ladies skin!

I used the lotion in the hopes that it would help prevent stretch marks and loose skin so naturally 9 months had to pass with me using the product in blind faith, my husband took great delight in teasing me about ending up with a huge saggy skin apron and when my bump was at it's biggest I was dismayed to notice it covered in lots of marks, I resembled a piece of stilton and didn't hold out a lot of hope that the product had worked, my expectations for after the birth were low. 2 weeks have passed since the arrival of baby Jack and I must say I'm pleasantly surprised, already my skin has gone back almost to how it was before I was pregnant and all those blue lines have gone, all I'm left with is one little purple line above my tummy button, I'm still using the remains of my bottle and hopefully it'll continue to do my skin good, it is still early days so my tummy may yet go back to it's pre-baby state, loose skin and mark free.

I know a lot of the "success" of the product could be attributed to sheer good luck but I didn't use the product when carrying my other 2 babies and my skin took longer to recover so I definitely think the lotion has had a hand in my recovery. I can certainly forgive the smell and greasiness as I'm very happy with the results I've achieved, I'm more happy and body confident after this baby then I was after the other 2, something I had never expected. I can certainly recommend it.
