Advantages: Clear the roads of bad parking.
Disadvantages: Costs money.
I know it can be really annoying when somebody receives a parking fine, but in the majority of the cases it is because somebody has broken the law. I am sure that we would all like to park anywhere we wanted, anytime we wanted, but parking restrictions are imposed for a reason. This reason may be for safety or to keep traffic flowing but at some point an application has been made to implement Yellow Lines and the case has been put forward and agreed. I find it really annoying when cars park on Yellow Lines on a busy road during the rush hour causing chaos and jams, just because the driver cannot be bothered to walk a few yards from a recognised parking spot. Why should their selfishness inconvenience everybody else? These people should be fined on every single occasion they are selfish. The other type of driver that annoys me are those that park in Pay and Display car parks for hours and hours but only ever pay for one hour. They work on the assumption that they occasionally may get caught and then they tell the car park attendant some stupid sob story about how they were delayed. The attendants should record the car registrations and keep a special watch for these cars every time they come into the car park. Such a system as Pay and Display requires an element of trust from everyone and abusers of the system should be fined. Too many people know they are parking illegally and then moan continuously if they are fined. They have two options – either park legally or pay the fine and shut up.

- 28/05/01 Agree with everything you say. The trouble is that the 'peril' and the 'meenies' just go that little bit further and then upset the generally law -abiding motorist. |

- 27/05/01 Absolutely right. Fines should be higher. Why should selfish individuals endanger and inconvenience everyone else. Why is it that Large 4x4's Beemers and mercs plus the occasional audi are the regular offenders perhaps if you can afford one the fixed penalty is small change. |

- 25/05/01 I agree with you. Paerking restrictions are there for a reason. I work for the Ambulance Service and have lost count of the tims I have been delayed by selfish and incompetent parking on yellow and double yellow lines. Lives are at risk, when will people wake up and take notice? |
