Advantages: Making lots of friends

Disadvantages: Costs alot in postage

When I was younger I had alot of pen pals. This was in the days before internet and texting on your phone. I found that I became semi- addicted to it to be honest. At one stage I had approx 35 pen pals. I was always writing letters. I would wait each morning with anticipation for the postman. I bet he was fed up with me, making him deliver all my piles of mail. I was making loads of friends, and I enjoyed writing the letters. It did cost my poor mum a fortune in stamps though, and writing paper. But at aged 15 you don't think about that. I met up with a few of my pen pals, and we became great friends. But they didn't stand the test of time. As I grew up and went off into the world I had no time for letter writing. Sad when I think about it. I wonder what they are all up to now?

Summary: Keeping in contact with people by letter is so much more personnal

I had several pen pals as a child too, usually people i'd met on holidays and become friends with. It's just so much quicker and easier to send emails nowadays.
