Kevin PhillipsNewest Review: ... to the likes of Andy Cole and Ian Wright when it comes to club form, he is not in there class, but when in comes to playing for England he is just as unimpressive and out of his depth as Messrs Cole and Wright. The way I see it is this, Phillips does not have the physical attributes that a player must have to make the step up, he’s very short almost stumpy, does not have great physical ... more |

For years and years strikers have scored goals at club level and failed to make any sort of impact at International Level, and Kevin Phillips in juts another who will go down in the record books as a player not fit to grace the International stage. His performances in an England shirt, and most notably his most recent against Sweden at Old Trafford yesterday just go to show the boy is not international class. Anyone who say's he has not had a chance should looks at the fact he now has about 8 caps, and remember when England played a friendly at sunderland's ground and Phillips started the game up front with Shearer, that gave him the perfect opportunity ... If Sven Goran Eriksson had nothing to go by when selecting his front men for England then one look at the picture of Kevin Philips on dooyoo.co.uk would put 'our Kev's' chances right out of the window! (Sorry - its hardly a fkattering photo!) But hey, Sven is a wise man, and Phillips is the countries best frontman so let's hope he'll be selected! I think that Sunderland owe a lot to this player - a truly superb finisher of the ball, scoring 30 league goals last season, Kevin Phillips is a star at the Stadium of Light - whenever he's got the ball the crowd seem to wake up again! Although he isn't the top goal scorer in the ... Read the complete review

Kevin Philips has made something of an unbelievable rise to fame when you think that only a few years ago he was stacking shelves and playing amateur football for a team few people if any would ever have heard of…. Since then he has created an absolute sensation wherever he has played, be it Watford, Sunderland or even any League, from Non-league to the Nationwide, and now the premiership! While I don’t think he is by any means a skilful player, he has the one quality that really matters – an eye for goal. He is a real goal poacher and gets in ‘the right place at the right time’, which is what every great striker has the ability to do. ... Read the complete review

Kevin Phillips was the top scorer in the Premiership last season and he has played for his country on a few occasions. Last season he was on fire and seemed to be able to score from any position on the field. He formed a brilliant partnership with Quinn. Phillips is so quick and that is one of his strong points. He easily looses his marker and he has deadly finishing. This season things don't seem to be going well for him. The goals have dried up but he is still creating chances for others. If there was one weakness to Kevins game it is that he is not quite up to international level yet. He has been given a few chances but has never shined. I am ... Read the complete review

Kevin Phillips proved all critics wrong last season as he managed to score the most goals in the premiership the same year that Sunderland had been promoted, this, in my view was a remarkable achievement, and he deserved his place in the England first team without doubt. However, Kevin Keegan didn't give Phillips enough starts during Euro 2000, so he couldn't really show how good he can be at internbational level. He was, however, very impressive in the Warm up tournament before the European championships. I think that this season his side have gotten off to an awful start, but I'm sure he'll start finding the net again, and will ... Read the complete review
