Advantages: Only ice rink south of Bristol, lovely leisure pool-great for kids
Disadvantages: A little run down, bit pricey
Plymouth Pavilions used to be the prime swimming/skating location, well the only ice skating place in the South West. Nowadays I feel the Pavilions have gone a little un-noticed, due to the new shopping complex up the other end of town drawing the people in.
I have been using the Pavilions for the past 7 years and it has seen highs and lows. It's facilities include ice skating, swimming, concerts, ceremonies etc. I have to say I have seen the prices go up considerably. I used to pay about £2.50 for ice skating years ago and now it is nearer £6 - I know it is like most places, but i think alot of people in plymouth have stopped coming here due to the prices. The ice skating rink itself is a little on the small side and the ice can sometimes be very bumpy - which I do not think is very good. The leisure pool though has several shutes and a jaquzzi and the water is alot warmer than general pools. It is a really nice pool for children - with a ship reck also in the pool that the kids can explore.
The concerts here are also worth a mention - they host bands such as The Feeling, Will Young and Avril Lavigne. Although the arena is smaller than places you get up country - I think it helps the south west get on the map more (as it were). I went to see Daniel Bedingfield several years ago and because it was a smaller areana it felt more personal - which i quite liked.
Overall this place needs a little investment and TLC i feel. I think that the facilities are good but could be made even better.
Summary: A good place to use now and again
