Advantages: lots to do
Disadvantages: not so family friendly
Whether it's a concert, ice skating or swimming, the Pavillions has it all. Young people flock to it all weekend, and its alive with the buzz of teens. Some top acts have performed here recently, including Kanye West. It's emerging as one of the top venues for performances in the country. Customer service is great, with well informed staff.
The ice rink is my own personal favourite at Pavillions. Every weekend I used to go and skate around. It's a great opportunity for kids to get fit, and enjoy themselves at the same time. No computer games needed here - just plenty of footwork! Sadly, it's not the most family friendly part of the place, as it is over-run with teens in groups. That isn't to say it's a mob mentality, but teenage boys showing off to the girls isn't the safest enviroment to take a little one to learn how to skate!
The swimming pool features slides and a wave machine, and is one of those pools where you go for fun, not to swim. If you're after a pool for swimming in, try Central Park. Again, the pool is over-run with teens, but shallow areas allow adequate space to take a young family.
As a concert venue, it's like any other, although I have to say I'm impressed with the talent we are managing to get: tonight's show with Lemar and JLS an exception!
Prices vary depending on age and the event in question, but can all be found at the website http://www.plymouthpavilions.com/
The only thing that I don't like about this place is the way you have to phone a pre-recorded info line to find out details for shows etc - I wish I could just speak to a human being, but even when you do get through to one they just give you the number for the pre-recorded service.
Summary: do it!
