I have now been pole vaulting for three years now. When people find this out they always ask are you not afraid when your vaulting. I am obviously not afraid as I have complete control over the pole and what happens with it (how it bends,when it flicks you up,etc). More people should do pole vault as it gives you a great feeling and it keeps you really fit.
You can also achieve a great deal in a short space of time. For instance in my first year of pole vault I became district and ulster champion and I came second in Ireland. I have also represented ULster in the Interprovincials. Unfortunatly the other competitors were all two years older than me and I did not win.
I advise you to go to your local athletics club and start some type of event. If only to give me some competition.
