Politics and Protest in generalNewest Review: ... a well documented phenomena that in times of recession, political inclinations will swing further to the extremes. The BNP have been seeking to exploit the general disaffection with the major political parties and win votes and power. They have done this, as Hitler did in the 1930's, by choosing a group to marginalise and blame. "Let's blame everything on people who aren't the same colour as us, or the same religion!" Unfortunately for the BNP, but fortunately for democracy, last week a ruling was made that the BNP would have to change their constitution to allow non white members. This is a party who claims that their policies... more |

After a well publicised battle with various groups, the BBC last night allowed Nick Griffin, the leader of the British Nationalist party, to be a panelist on the prestigious tv programme, Question Time. Interestingly, tonight Nick Griffin is complaining that his treatment on QT was unfair and that he was "picked on". To be honest, if he did feel "picked on" ( I think he is rationalising and excusing his inadequate response to the questions with this gambit) I am glad! It might give him some empathy towards the coloured folk, that his friends in the Ku Klux Klan 'visit' in the middle of the night. Now that, is being 'picked on'! ... Read the complete review

India got freedom on 15th august 1947. This fact is rooted in our minds by the continuous pompous and Gala celebrations organized on exchequers funds by our own democratically elected government. We are reminded every year that one more year have passed since we got freedom. A fairytale for bright future is told and tears for the ones who sacrificed their lives are shed. Someone said back in 1947 that democracy is not the right government for India because giving democracy to a illiterate country would be like giving a sword in the hands of a monkey. We are much more literate than what we were that time but we are still monkeys because our politicians have ... Read the complete review

OK, so now ice cream vans are only allowed to play their music for 4 seconds. Another pathetic example of this country going to the dogs! What are they seriously going to do to those REBELS who dare to play the ice cream van music for 6 seconds? Arrest them? Will we have vigilante groups out attacking van owners if they play for 8 seconds? What about 10? Crucifixion, first offence (Monty Python)??? It's another hairbrained scheme by our so called leaders! And what of that embarrassingly stupid notion of kicking a family out of their council home if their children are badly behaved? WTF? I would like to see this one enforced! The first family it ... Read the complete review

On the whole I think we are quite an apathetic country when it coes to politics and protest and rarely do you see peole getting significantly agitated enough to actually do something or show any sort of emotion. The only real time you see anyone getting off their butts to do anything is when it is some sort of proposal that will have a negativ impact upon their local area such as plans to build a new travellers site or following the announcement this week if a new nuclear plant is to be built within fall out range of their house, mind you by the sounds of it that will be all of us if the new reactors are built in the numbers that the government hope they will ... It's normally the swamps of Florida in steamy August where you would most expect to find Crocodile tears (yes I know there are only alligators there but as far as I'm concerned they are two of the same thing, like a hurricane is called a typhoon in the other hemisphere), not a New Hampshire coffee shop in winter, Hillary Clinton's strategic waterfall just five minutes before the polling booths opened a decisive vote winner. This seemed to turn the polls on there heads as Hillary flipped a 15 point deficit from the Iowa Caucuses into a two point lead in New Hampshire. None of the political pundits or pollsters saw it coming and that can only mean the very late tears had ... Read the complete review
