Advantages: I'm bored of Man U now!
Disadvantages: But they're still the best.... yawn
Who can see beyond Old Trafford as the destination of the title next year? They've retained their best players and simply added even more quality and depth to a squad that could probably already field 2 sides that would do rather well in the Premier League. HOWEVER! My tip, is Liverpool, if only for the reason I want to say someone other than Man U! But seriously, with a front-line of Owen, Fowler, Hesky and Smicer they won't be short of goals. Heskey's had his detractors after Euro 2000 but the fact is he's a good player. Owen and Fowler speak for the themselves, if Owen can remain injury free. And Smicer scores goals by the hat-ful for the Czech Republic, currently ranked 3rd best team in the world. With a midfield containing a once again, fit Jamie Redknapp, and England starlet Steven Gerrard this area's not a weakness. The defence marshalled superbly by Sami Hypia and a resurgent Stefan Henchoz, and Dutch No.2 Sander Westerveld between the sticks the team in strong. All tied together by Gerard Houllier the man behind the scenes of France's 1998 World Cup win and the Red of Anfield is once again up with the best. Houllier has added cannily to his squad over the summer, knowing that he must match the strength in depth of Man U.... they're not there yet, but they may push them close this time. Arsenal's old-guard are still good, but will slow further, Chelsea are decimating to rebuild their cosmopolitan squad, everyone will be more wary of Leeds this time and Liverpool can only hope that complacency finally sets in at Old Trafford.

- 05/07/00 i reckon in barthez we've got as good as anyone in the prem, defence neds strengthening, midfield is good, but not as good as arsenal, but our attack remains awesome, beckham giggs, then perm any two from solskjear, sheringham, cole and yorke, i like fortune too, could turn out to be a gem. think we'll walk the prem again, not sure about europe though, as for liverpool, i rate fowler as the best finisher bar none, don't rate any of the others though, even owen, all hype, little delivery |
