Advantages: Makes you think?

Disadvantages: Can be annoying

I am taking a break from the very serious business of writing reviews for a minute and am going to brighten my day with the knowledge that I am annoying the hell out of everyone who reads this and tries to figure it out.

It is a kind of brainteaser, puzzle, riddle or whatever you want to call it. I was reminded of it earlier during a phone call from a friend.

A few of you will have probably heard it before but for those of you that have not, here is the story...

One night, three friends; Tom, Dick and Harry, decided to try out a new restaurant that was opening in the area. They rang up, booked a table and decided to pre order their meals from the set menu. It came to £30, so they each paid £10.

When they arrived, they were shown to their table and quickly served their meals. During the meals, the owner of the restaurant realised that he had miscalculated and had seriously overcharged Tom, Dick and Harry.

He didn't feel right just keeping the money and as he wanted to give a good impression on his opening night he decided to give them a small refund. He had over charged by £5 but figured that this amount was not easily split in to three, so his cheeky side took over and he decided to give them £3 (£1 each) back and keep the other two for himself.

He pocketed the £2, went over to the table and made his apologies then handed Tom, Dick and Harry their pounds back. He wished them an enjoyable meal and headed back to the kitchen.

So... Tom, Dick and Harry all got a pound back meaning that they only paid £9 each instead of the original £10, and the restaurant owner pocketed the £2 change.

£9 x 3 = £27

£27 + £2 = £29

The boys originally paid £30 for the meal, so.....

Where did the missing pound go??????????????

Summary: Well, where is it then?

Lol, you got it Susan, that's the right way of working it out. Starting with the £25 then adding the rest. It just doesn't work out when you try and do it the other way - it's a bit weird, kind of like a maths loophole! x

Oh, don't be so petty, helen! lol, would you mark a review as not useful just because you had seen the product before?

You are looking at it back to front you should subtract the £2 from the £27 to give the £25 that the meal has actually cost, Susan
