Advantages: Fast, Cheap , Honest
Disadvantages: None
One Stop Garage, just along the Faraday Road in Newbury is probably the best establishment I have ever used for my car maintenance. As an independent garage they stand out from the crowd, mainly due to their plush service centre. The waiting room is more like a private doctors clinic than a garage, but I guarantee you wont be waiting long - I spent just 15 minutes waiting for my front brake pads to be replaced. If you are worried that pleasant surroundings are a camoflage for poor service - fear not. I dont know anyone who has had reason to complain about One Stop (most of my colleges use them too) They are a relativly new establishment, and so are still working to build up a reputation, but seem to be doing OK. A complete range of services, including MOTs can be had for reasonable prices. A full service will cost just £69, and includes all the usual checks and top ups. They also offer some interesting extras, such as filling your tires with nitrogen to reduce wear and deflation. You can add a valet to any of the services offered for as little as £10. I have found them to be very efficient when carrying out work, and extremely honest. Unlike some garages One Stop will only advise you on work that is required immediately - they dont try to scare you into expensive jobs with horror stories. A recent service highlighted I had only a few months wear on my break pads. My experience of garages prior to using One Stop was that they would have changed them there and then and told me that I needed new disks as well! A full service, including tracking, brake fluid change, and other jobs cost just £125 pounds, compared to £408 for the last one. This is not a like for like comparison, but I was suprised by how little had gone wrong with the car over the same mileage between services! One Stop offers an all round superb service. - 16/06/01 Just updated the Op Sidney to take your points into consideration. |

- 16/06/01 True, It was not like for like, but the amount paid at the previous garage was drawn inot suspicion when I read later in the local rag that trading standards had successfully prosecuted them for unecessary and sub standard work. The quality of the service is actually reflected by the waiting area. They are not only my first choice, but the first chioce of every one I know - I actually went there on a referal. |

- 16/06/01 Too far away for me. In any case, I'm suspicious of those who spend money on 'plush waiting areas'.
Howe ver, remember moistoist - that is not comparing 'like-for-like', and the amount you apay does not necessarily indicate the 'quality' of the service. |
