Express Review on Recommended Garages/Mechanics
by James Broderick - written on 14.02.08

We used a company called MendMyCar, located in Great Barr. It is a new business but in association with a well established recovery company. Our car didn't start in the morning so the recovery driver suggested MendMyCar to us.

I found the mechanics to be most helpful as they diagnosed the problem quickly. The car was even washed and had been cleaned inside. On the other hand, the manager informed me the business was new and as such required more investment in order to make it a success. He also informed me that it was difficult to find more work as it is a very competitive market.

I also use tyre mart for my motorbike tyres and have found them to be much cheaper than any other garage. I'de certainly give them a call for a quote before going anywhere else.

Premium Review Recommended Garages/Mechanics: ChipsAway (in Farnham, Surrey) (156 words)

ChipsAway service all depends on what area and franchisee you get - some are better than others. I used the Farnham guy back in May 2006 and he did a great job, I can't fault the repair at all (I can't spot it anyway!). He charged me £100+VAT to repair a fairly deep scratch to the front offside wing of my metallic silver Peugeot 107 caused by my ...

I have recently had 2 jobs performed on my wifes Nissan Micra and 1 on my Mondeo by a mobile mechanic called JS Auto Repairs in Southend On Sea. The first was a full service. This was completed in front of my eyes and nothing on the service schedule was overlooked or not done. Even down to making sure the washers squirted onto the ...

I recommend this garage highly. I live in Chingford Essex but the 30 minute drive to Great Dunmow is well worth it. This is a very professional and tidy looking garage and the staff are very friendly and helpful aswell. I was only charged £21 for an oil and filter change, other garages I asked quotes from were asking around £40 - £50!!! ...

Once upon a time, I used to be a naive university student who, due to hard graft at the local supermarket (ever worked a 60-hour week on a checkout?) had saved up the pennies required to purchase and insure his first car, a Volvo 340. After a while it needed a service so, at that stage having no mechanical knowledge I booked it in at the ...

ChipsAway (www.chipsaway.co.uk) fix bumps and scrapes to your car. They use a cellulose paint that doesn't need to be cured in an oven. You get get these repairs done at Halfords repair centres, or with a mobile service from local franchisees. They use a small air brush so overspray onto neighbouring vehicles isn't a problem. The paint is ...

Well I'm a bottle-blonde 30something woman and sadly yes, when I first started driving I lived up to the stereotype - I could just about tell which was the boot and which was the bonnet - on a good day that is. However after bitter experience I'm now something of an expert on crap garages. No-one pulls the wool over my eyes any ...

It’s not often in the UK that you can get a quality service anymore. The larger a company, the less they seem to care about your individual needs, I find. That’s why its refreshing to find a company that a) won't stiff you on price b) always provides excellent levels of service c) friendly staff and d) superb ...

One Stop Garage, just along the Faraday Road in Newbury is probably the best establishment I have ever used for my car maintenance. As an independent garage they stand out from the crowd, mainly due to their plush service centre. The waiting room is more like a private doctors clinic than a garage, but I guarantee you wont be waiting ...

Premium Review Kwik-fit: we should not allow ourselves to be victims. (348 words)

The TV adverts used to say, "you can't get quicker than a kwik-fit fitter, and the wags changed it to something else. I have recently had three experiences of kwik fit which make me think that the public is not being offered a reasonable service and once they have you on their premises, you are a victim. Unfortunately, my car ...

To all those who use Halfords, Kwik-Fit etc fast-fit and servicing centres here's some friendly advice. It will probably save you money as well as, hopefully, ensure that you get what you pay for with regard to work on your car. I use to place my trust in Halfords both in my home town and in Preston. However, after a while I ...

I've had many many experiences with this dealership. They are main Peugeot dealers and operate out of the midlands in Ireland. They are on the main Dublin to Limerick road (N7) just past Portlaoise on the Limerick side. The business has been in existence for about 20 years and almost all of the staff have been there since the start. ...

If you live in or around West Oxfordshire, you should consider using Priory Garage in Burford for any repairs or servicing needs. Your car needs a service and MOT and maybe the odd repair and you can't find a garage that you can trust? You've heard so many tales about cowboy garages who tell you that you need a new "whatsit" when in fact you either don't or they say you do just to get more money off you. Incompetent or rogue mechanics ...
