When Paddy Crealnd said that 50% of refrees we cowards, he was being just a little conservative. It seems that the inconsistency which so annoys football supporters is cause by the ref's not be willing to implement the rules as they stand. How often does a player dive, yet the ref waves play on? Surely, either a fowl was committed, or the play dived - either way a free kick must be given, and in response to a dive, a booking. Also, how often does a player on a booking get a away with a tackle that any other play would have received a yellow for? It doesn't matter if the player will be sent off, iit matters that ref's are consistent in the way they implemtent the rules of the game. No one wants to see players getting send of, and liberalising the rules a little would reduve the current disciplinary problem, but this is no reason who officials to abandon their respsonsibilities. Maybe DiCanio had the right idea when he showed Paul Allcock what he thoguth of him.
