Advantages: Gives people faith
Disadvantages: Causes wars?
Religion is a way for people to have faith and belief in something they feel guides and protects them. It is a way to bring people together to worship one of thier god's. The gods of different people the world over give these people hope and faith for a better life. So why is it that something so binding and peaceful cause so many problems throughout the world? I think it is because most people's belief in their religion is so so strong, they cannot accept any other faith. Here in Britain, we are fortunate that we have a democratic enviroment that allows multi faiths and freedom of speech and the right to choose your religion. I think it is a shame in some of the Muslim and hindu countries where religion is not an option or choice. These people are forced into a faith. They are force to marry but this may be more influenced by their culture than their beliefs. Modern time should se these people able to make a choice rather than living in some form of medieval lifestyle. Religion has been so strong in people's lives that it has caused wars and divided nations. The Crucades were fought to spread the word of Christ. Wars even today rage petween Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland. In fact, they say most wars are started over Religion. I think this is so. In the Middle East, wars rage in Palestine and Gaza over territory that is suppposedly holy. If there are gods for these people, do you think they would be happy to see their people fighting for their beliefs? I dont think so.

- 24/07/01 I don't think religion itself is a dangerous thing, just people's extreme interpretations of it and intolerance to other doctrines. |

No actually they were fought at the request of the Byzantine empire which was losing territory and quickly desended into a quest for nothing more the money. Religion doesn't cause wars, people do. |

- 24/07/01 I'm not religious myself, but I don't think you can complain that people are too devoted to their faith. I mean, if not then what's the point? |
