Advantages: Helps you prepare for exams

Disadvantages: Can seem like a waste of time or can be boring

I think the best tip for revising efficiently is do it in a way that works for you. Teachers have their own style and they sometimes do not realise that each student is different and will have their own individual learning style.
Revision is not effective whilst on msn or facebook because you will simply not be able to concentrate.
You should revise in blocks of about half an hour and then have a short break to refresh your mind and body again. Water is essential as it will hydrate the brain whereas sugary drinks will give your body energy but slow your brain down.
Mind mapping is a very powerful way of remembering information. Using colours, shapes and pictures will help you to be able to recall the information better.
Some people might remember information orally so they could try making a cd with key facts on it and listen to it.
You can use stories or mnemonics to associate information with things you are familiar with and therefore it is put in a format that you understand and are comfortable with. Some schools or teachers also do brain gym with students which helps them to relax and not panic.
Failing to prepare means preparing to fail.

Summary: Revising is essential if you want to pass exams!
