Road Rage. The thing I don't get is why it is such an issue! Why? By getting into a car your attitude should not change one bit. People should be in control of their anger wherever they are, and just because they're in a car, it shouldn't be simply brushed off as just another incident of "Road Rage". People get arrested and stuff for fighting and arguing in pubs etc. just because you're in a car it shouldn't come under a different name. I have been driving for just over two years, and have luckily personally never been the victim of any of these Di**heads. More to the point, I have never inflicted any on other people. Ok, if somebody cuts you up, yeah its a bit annoying, but is it really worth getting all huffed up about, so that you put not only your own life in danger, but possibly many other peoples lives aswell? Certain things are going to bother people on the roads. I hate tailgaters, but I personally wouldn't shout and beep and swear and whatever else at them, as I would then be in the same category as them. And at the end of the day, if they hit me, its their accident! So if you know you're a road rager, take a minute to think, Why? If people on the roads bother you so much, maybe you should 1) Not travel at all! or 2) Go to anger management lessons!! By the way, thought I'd add this bit as I'd tempted fate!! A couple of days after writing this I was driving on the *wonderful* ring road of Wolverhampton. The roads split off in all directions and stuff, but I'll try to describe it as best I can!! A dual carriageway leads up to traffic lights where the two lanes split into three. I was in the outside lane of the dual carriageway which leads straight to the outside lane of the three. I wasn't in a wrong lane or switching lanes or anything! Now, just a little further up the third lane another lane go's off of it, so you have to stay in the t
hird lane until the exit is there. Now, the car that was behind me was pulling off on the exit lane. He did a huge wheelspin and tried to speed off while squeezing round my car. Becasue of the traffic lights all of the traffic was stopped and he nearly hit my car...and he beeped at me!!! I couldn't believe it! He was changing lanes and chose to try to get round me, but because he was angry that he nearly crashed his car into mine, he beeped at me!! My passenger was shocked too and I think she may have sworn at him while he looked at me with a pi**ed off look!!! It was one of the most bizarre situations I had ever been in in my life!!

- 17/04/01 Just a short message not like the last few that would match my A’ Level English Exam !!!!! If you (davemar) use the Speed Up and Slow down approach this is surely reckless. If you slow down the driver behind you may not notice this and smash into the back of you.....not that smart is it. Because now the tables would have turned....YOU would have caused the accident not the other person. I think that you need to take this into consideration before taking actions that you have mentioned below. |

- 11/04/01 I don't overtake people because I'm annoyed, I overtake
people because I want to go faster than them. Often these
people aren't actually driving very fast, they just don't
realise there are times when you do need to slow down (like
when there are vehicles in front going slowly!). They rarely
get up to speed when the road opens up, hence I often end
up overtaking them again.
OK, on some roads it is not possible to pull over, but I'd
rather not be at extra risk of someone rear-ending me just
because I feel that I'm driving within the law.
If I ever did have a convoy of vehicles behind me, that
I was clearly holding up (which you are if you do have lots
of vehicles behind and nothing in front) then I would pull
over at the soonest safe opportunity to let the pass by;
regardless of what the speed limit was and my speed.
I've only ever pulled over once for someone tailgating me,
which was in a 30mph zone, where I was already over the
speed limit. When the road opened up and became NSL, they
still carried on at 45mph or so, so I ended up overtaking
them. Who looked the fool now?
Safety first, law second in my book.

- 26/02/01 The point I was making though was that I try not to let people get to me! You are surely allowing them to get to you as you feel you need to let them know you were annoyed by overtaking them later! And as I said on some roads its not possible to pull over, but then again why should you if you are doing the speed limit, not breaking any laws and not being an idiot?! You aren't in the wrong so why should you feel that you have to bow down to these bullies? |
