If you have ever been the victim of road rage, then you know how frightening it really is.
Now Im not scaredy cat when it comes to a bit of rough and tumble but I must mention 2 occasions that have really made me think twice about some of the idiots on the road.
The first occasion happend about 7 or 8 years ago now. I was driving an Ex girlfriend back home to Eastwood near Southend (about 20 miles away) one evening about 10:30. The car in front had foreign plates. I know that because they were Dutch I have since found out. 6 digits or numbers in groups of 2 with hyphons in between. I can remeber it so vividly. A black BMW.
It was crawling along a dual carriageway after coming off a roundabout so I overtook it. The driver then sped up and came after me. I dont think he liked being overtaken.
As we approached the next roundabout, he got alongside of me and the back window came down and someone leant out and took a swing at my car with what loked like an Iron bar!!!
I was petrified. My girlfriend was screaming as I nearly crashed trying to avoid these nutters. It followed us for about a mile as I tried desperately to outrun it.
Whe we got to her house we called the police and they were very unhelpful. They could not be bothered without an accurate description or Number plate number. I told them it was Foreign and they could not be bothered. Typical Police attitude.
(maybe they should take a leaf out of the dooyoo police handbook hey???)
The second occasion happened taking my Fiancee back to Sussex. Joining the M25 at the A12 junction, an idiot again in a BMW (what is it about BMWs) cut us up on the slip road. I flashed him and made a hand jesture (like you do) and this guy then had rage in his face. He slowed up and got right up my backside, flashing me and pointing to the hard shoulder. He wanted me to pull over. I was petrified for my life and my Girlfriends as it was just after the incident on the M25 with Kenneth Noye and that young
lad that got stabbed. There was no way I was stopping so I slowed right up doing about 30,He stayed right behind me but I managed to lose him at the Thurrock turnoff. Shaking like a leaf, we waited for a few minutes while I regained my compsure and headed back on our way to Sussex.
So I have had it at 1st hand experience and its not nice I can tell you.

As a taxidriver and ex-salesman, I've run into this sort of thing more often than I care to remember. I always carry a "pepper spray" for personal protection (they're legal, under the counter in any security shop) that stops any would be assainent dead in their tracks.
Also, if possible, ALWAYS get the car number, name of the road, time of incident, etc and report to the police.
INSIST on making an official complaint, and follow up by DEMANDING a written report of the action taken.
If not happy, then report the POLICE to the police complaints board in your local area. (Citizen's Advice will give you the address.)
One wee piece of advice though. I'd stop with the hand gestures if I were you. These cause more trouble than they're worth. Just "let it go" if you can.

Pretty scary stuff, fortunately not something I've experienced.
