Writing an opinion about this subject is something I felt compelled to do as a person who used to be a driving instructor. In the time I taught pupils to drive, I came across some appalling driving from other road users, but oddly enough did not see a lot of ‘road rage’ but some of the road rage incidents I did see was not very nice for the pupils I was trying to teach. So what is Road rage? Is it something that has been made worse by the media coverage? And what makes someone snap and become so angry they have to use abusive behaviour and dangerous driving? Well here are just some of the incidents that I have seen. Incident 1 In front of me were two cars. The car in front of me was driving as close as he could to the car in front of him, hooting because he was not moving fast enough, when suddenly the car turned right. This caused the car in front of me to break suddenly and caused him to swerve. This driver then completely lost his temper and also turned right to catch up with this driver at the traffic lights. When he did he got out punching and kicking this persons car. Why? Was it because he knew that deep down inside he was wrong by driving to close to the car in front and being a little too impatient? And had he gone into the back of this other person’s car he would be in the wrong. Maybe a case of being annoyed with himself perhaps. Incident 2 At a busy junction with two lanes of traffic were two cars, side by side, waiting for the traffic lights to change green. The road ahead merged into one lane and as the lights changed to green both cars sped off together, and yes you’ve guessed it, they collided together, all because one wanted to get in front of the other. What happened next was a fully fisted fight between to grown adults, causing a lot of distress to shoppers with children and the pupil I was teaching at the time. All we needed here was just one driver to be courteous to the othe
r and this would have been prevented. Sadly courtesy is something that does lack in some drivers and where it does lack an accident can sometimes happen. Anger plays a part in motor accidents too, it is because someone can be angry that it leads to lack of concentration and therefore causing misjudgement in their driving. And of course there are those who do not use their mirrors, speed, and drive without paying attention to other road users. So will we ever be able to cure this problem?. The answer is most likely no, but here are some tips that may be worth remembering. SOME DRIVING TIPS TO REMEMBER: 1.Please be courteous to other road users. 2.Leave in good time and do not speed (it is better to get there ten minutes late then ten minutes to early in the next world) 3.Try not to get angry at what other drivers do, their chances of having an accident will be higher then yours. 4.If you do something wrong say sorry with a wave of your hand it could help defuse a situation. 5.Please use all three mirrors 6.Most of all please remember try not to get Angry. Being angry leads to lack of concentration, lack of concentration can lead to an accident, and an accident CAN KILL! So in times of annoyance, just smile, it will make you feel better. Happy and safe driving. :-)
