I am a saint on the road, no, honestly. I think I must be one of the most patient drivers there is when it comes to the behaviour of others. I can put hand on heart and say that I sound my horn in retribution to another road user on average about once a year. How do I manage to survive the manic driving of others I hear you ask? Simple, I regard anybody who cuts me up as a total prat and not worth the time of day. I regard myself as a good driver (yes, I know we all do, but I also have an accident free history and points free licence to back up my view) and that helps too. I feel superior to them. I concentrate when I am driving and make a point of anticipating the actions of others. I think half the so-called road rage incidents happen because driver A was not anticpating driver B to do what he did and feels aggrieved by it. Let me give you a typical example. You are driving along a single carriageway road and somebody comes up to overtake you. There is a vehicle in the distance coming the other way. Now, the guy overtaking you is obviously going to have to pull over in a few seconds, but it can happen two ways. Either you are on the ball and drop back slightly giving him an easy gap to drop into, or he has to cut in sharply generating a potential road rage situation. OK, he might have been a bit of a wally trying to overtake in the first place but you don't need to act like one by making it difficult for him to pull over. Let us say that somebody does cut you up badly and you are raging, here's how I react. The next opportunity which you get, do a GOOD turn to another road user. Give way, let somebody pull out of their drive, let an old lady cross the road or whatever. The smile or wave which you get from that person instantly defuses the rage that's lurking inside you. The worst thing you can do is take it out on the next person, it wasn't their fault somebody cut you up. So, in conclusion, concentrate
on what you and especially others are doing, anticipate the prats and have a quiet little superior smile to yourself and be loving and kind to the next person you meet, never fails.

- 16/06/01 Never had communication with a Saint before. I'm with you, Sir, why let others get you into a rage, let them go. What does it all really matter - perhaps you know the answer! Nice op - Kay |
