Disadvantages: People get hurt, Too many victims, Road Rage is on the increase
Road Rage is dramatically on the increase. Why is this? I myself am finding it more and more difficult driving on today's road. I have NEVER and will never be a road rager, and have never come across one, although there's been the odd close call! But, I do find myself getting more and more irritated by today's drivers. Living in a seaside resort, holiday-makers flock here in their thousands each summer, and quite often find myself muttering obscenities under my breath at the sheer thoughtlessness of some people as they wander up and down the seafront, and not looking at the on-coming traffic. But, that is just one very small part of living in today's society. Years ago, life was lived at a much slower pace. People didn't have to rush to be somewhere at a certain time, and weren't racing about swearing and cussing at the driver in front of them to move faster, so they could get from A to B at a faster rate. The more mature driver is generally frowned upon for driving slower and taking their time. I think people in general have changed to society. Cars and roads are being made all the time to cope with the traffic congestion on the roads and motorways. Road rage victims can be anyone, and the person responsible can, also, be anyone. It could well be you or me. I said earlier I would never enforce road rage, but there are times when we do and can loose our rag! I'm not a violent person, and would never inflict violence on anyone, but have used my voice on the odd occasion! I am ashamed of that, but on the spur of the moment, when someone has done something stupid or wrong, I tell them so. Yes, the road rage enforcer is to blame, but they will always blame the other person for making them late, or for whatever reason. We live in a very fast moving world now. People are always dashing about here, there and everywhere, and driving fast is what some people enjoy doing anyway. I always make su
re I don't drive over the speed limit, and this is also a cause for getting people angry! Some people don't care, and just love racing about! But, living in a fast moving world is not to blame. People are to blame. People need to realise that road rage will not solve things, and just need to learn to start chilling out a bit and counting to 10 before loosing their temper! It's a shame, and a shame it's on the increase that all too often ends up in the courts.

- 06/07/01 I think anger management is a skill that many people need to learn. I've struggled with RR myself, particularly when being cut up by some idiot (!) but find that recognising the seeds of it in myself helps me to control it. Tom |

- 05/07/01 Road rage is not new. It is increasing because we are getting more crowded on the roads |
