Road Rage! Road rage is one of them things that every one is going to get at some point, this does not matter if you are a car driver a cyclist or a pedestrian, the attitude of drivers on our roads is at an all time unacceptable low, most drivers have little or no regards for any one else on the road, a typical stereo type is a rep, he drives a bmw, his car is better than yours and he knows the speed limit, it happens to be what the hell he wants it to be but so what. This really gets on my wick, your proceeding down the outside lane of the motorway at 75mph, 5mph above the limit and you have some arse sat in your boot because he is in the fast lane and your in his way, this is of interest as all the lanes on the motorway have the same speed limit so how does it become a fast lane?. That is just one of the many things you can get on motorway, another is the guy who sees it fit to work his way up the nearside of a truck cut him up and proceed straight across all 3 lanes to his "fast lane", at this pint I am the one sat there waiting for an unmarked traffic car to pull him over, but this very rarely happens. The road manners of drivers on our roads should be looked into and people made aware of the deadly machine they are in control of, I cant remember the exact figures but at a guess I would say that at 70mph you cover about 120feet a second, so surely when you are that close to the car in front your visibility does not allow you to see and try your best to anticipate the car what is going spin round and smack the central reservation causing havoc, what does he do if the person in front fails to see it in time? I have no doubts that people will have conflicting views to mine, hey the world would be a boring place if every one was the same!, I would like to think I am considerate to those around me, I do not want to put my self in danger so I do appreciate it when others put me in a sticky situation which most of the time it seem
s to be me who has to take the necessary actions to avoid an accident, and its not often I am at fault. If I can have this attitude as a younger driver who drives a kind of boy racer car if that?s what you choose to call it, why cant people who are a dam sight older and should know better?. I could have a different view with certain parts of the family been ex traffic cops, I know its done me a lot of good to realise that you have to have respect for the wishes and views of every one else who you come across in every day life, be it driving or other wise. This is my views and I am not trying to force them on anyone. Its not very long ago I got stopped doing 86 in a 60, I know it sounds excessive, and I am not trying to justify it, I should have gone to court if it had not been for the traffic cop who stopped me, he realised that once I had passed the horse box I slowed back down to 60 and it is not because of his presence as he was sat in a lay-by in an unmarked black passat. That taught me because I got annoyed and risked various peoples lives it got me a fine and penalty points, yes we all get road rage at times but it is the ones who persist at it and are repeat offenders who never seem to get done. I take someone I know who drives like an idiot scares the life out of me with his tail gaiting and his abuse to other road users who are just trying to go about their daily business without some arsehole hurling abuse at them. Perhaps at some point in time the government will see it fit to clamp down on these who continually brake the law, be it mobile phones, speeding!, or just downright dangerous driving.

- 09/05/04 One of the best things about my move from London to Devon last year has been the reduction in road rage surrounding me! |
