~ My Personal Experience ~

Where do I start and why have I chosen to do a review on this subject? The main reason is because I am sick of seeing it on page two of the discussion section as no reviews written and I also have some knowledge and opinions on the Romanian teams and players, so here it is the very first review on the Romanian football team.

When I was growing up I remember that Romania had a pretty decent football team with the likes of Dan Petrescu, Adrian Ilie and of course the legendary Gheorghe Hagi who scored some cracking goals.

One of the memories I have about the Romanian football team is the win over England which sent us out of the competition, but back then they did have a formidable team which could beat anyone on their day. I also remember that Romania got to third in the all time FIFA Rankings in 1997 which justifies how good they actually were at the time.

They now hold their worst FIFA ranking of thirty six in the world and after failing to qualify for another world cup just shows you how much they have fallen down the pecking order.

I think that their home kit (yellow) is something that makes them stand out and I remember in one of the competitions that all their players dyed their hair blonde which looked really bizarre as you couldn't see which player was which.

~ Favourite Players ~

+ Gheorghe Hagi
+ Dan Petrescu
+ Adrian Ilie
+ Viorel Moldovan
+ Dorinel Munteanu
+ Adrian Mutu

~ Interesting Team Facts ~

The furthest Romania have reached in the World Cup was the Quarter Finals in 1994 in the USA. They have recently missed the chance to qualify for the world cup in South Africa in 2010.

The furthest they have reached in the European Championships was Quarter Finals in 2000 and yes that was the time they beat England to send us crashing out due to a Phil Neville penalty late on.

Romania play at the Stadionul Naţional and is now named after one of their most famous discuss throwers Lia Manoliu. This is due to be demolished and new state of the art arena is to be built in its place ready for the UEFA cup final in 2011.

They only have a 27% win ratio against England which we all hope stays as it is.

~ Interesting Player Facts ~

The most capped player for Romania is Dorinel Munteanu with 134 caps and scoring 16 goals. Next in line is the legendary Hagi on 125 caps scoring 35 goals which makes him the all time top goal scorer for Romania.

The current captain of the squad is Cristian Chivu and the head coach is Razvan Lucescu.

~ To Conclude...~

Back in the 90's the Romanian football team were a good side and proved it by beating the likes of England and drawing with Germany after taking the lead before eventually being knocked out by Italy.

Romania have had some really decent players in the past but have been in a decline for the past ten years but I am sure in time they will return again as a team that is hard to beat.

Summary: A brief review about the Romanian football team.

Love the fact they all dyed their hair blond. I wonder if England could get Nice 'n' Easy to sponsor them...
