Advantages: nice to get things off your chest
Disadvantages: its a reminder of the things that annoy the hell out you
Wow, if this room only existed. It would be bursting at the seams, full of all those things that really get on our nerves. I have narrowed my room 101 candidates down from an almost endless list.
>> 1 << Politicians:
What do politicians actually do for us? Around election time they promise us the world but ultimately fail to deliver every solitary single time. They are a big black hole in which our hard earn’t money is poured into on a daily basis with little conceivable return.
It doesn’t even matter what political party it is, all I know is that taxes (and general outgoings) go up (mainly by stealth taxing these days) and public spending always seems to go down, although strangely enough they promise to pump billions and billions of pounds into education, health and public transport every election year, then once they are in power (or stay in power) these three areas never seem to improve.
My opinion of most politicians, no matter what country is that they are liars, they are doing what they do for the perks of the job and don’t actually give a rats arse about their constituents. Sure they may start political life with all the good intentions in the world, but when they realise that they cannot actually get anywhere they go with the flow of all the other politicians. A bit like the eager new police officer that thinks he can make his area completely crime free, only to learn that it doesn’t really work that way.
Take the environment which has been a big issue for a while in the media, not so long ago the government were denying it was a problem, now they do recognise that it is but seem paralysed to actually do anything about it. I know I am not a politician and I am not familiar with all the in’s and out’s but as a member of normal Joe Public, this is my perception.
(slight edit) there are always exceptions to the rule, i am sure there are decent politicians out there that really want to help people, but from my perspective the majority of things that go on in politics only costs me money in increased taxes, bills etc)
>> 2 << The people that stand in the street giving out free newspapers:
Are these people there to keep the countries unemployment figures down? I work in the Strand in London and every night after work I walk to Charing Cross, it is only a couple of hundred metres (if that), it takes about 2 or 3 minutes to walk the distance. In that time I have 2 big issue sellers (whim I know are unemployed anyway), 5 free newspaper people (from 2 different newspapers), what is this all about? Why so many? Why any at all? If I want to pick up a free newspaper put a newspaper bin in the station… Oh they have those as well. Huh!
>>3<< The people that stand in the street from charities and other organisations:
These are the people, generally young, confident student types who accost people when they are walking down the street, they want to talk about everything from slavery to cancer sufferers. Now I don’t have an issue with charities etc wanting to make people aware, or even attempt to get more in the way of donations. But I don’t want people pulling me up in the street, under the pretence that they do not want my money, but only want to have a chat, only to ask me for my bank details at the end so they can set up a direct debit for £3 a month or whatever the going rate is these days. Especially when a massive percentage of that donation, should I decide to make it would be lost in administration fees.
>>4<< Child Tax Credit Organisation
I have never come across such an inept, useless bunch of people in my entire life. If this was a voice post there would be lots and lots of bleeps throughout. I wont go into the full details as they are personal, but left say they think they have overpaid me by £8k, I disagree and have been trying to fight it since February 2007, I have just got off the phone to them (2/11/07) and they had the cheek to tell me “we cannot do anything about your complaint at the moment” that is laughable. But to summarize
• They told me they had paid me £8000 too much.
• I call them to dispute it.
• They tell me the dispute is invalid and I still owe them the money.
• I complain and call every week to the child support credit office and am told that it’s being dealt with.
• I request the CD conversation; it takes 6 months to get to me.
• I write 5 letters over the course of the months and never once receive a reply
• None of the people can tell me anything about the complaint, nor can they give me any other kind of useful information.
• I eventually find the customer service unit and send all my complaint info and issue to them, I am encouraged as I think I am not hitting a brick wall any more.
• I am told today that they are waiting on further information. Lol, it’s been 9 months, what further information could they possibly want?
I have some advice for anyone that is with the Child Support Credit people. That advice is this, call them up once a month and ensure that they have your full income details on their system. Makes notes on the dates, time and who you spoke, you never know when you will need it, they are a useless organisation and deserving of ever piece of bad press that they do.
>>5<< Internet pop-ups
The scourge of the internet, advertising pop ups. We thought we had them beaten with inbuilt pop up blockers, but now they have the other kind which display some sort of java or flash moving images splattered across the page you want to view, or even more annoying when you mouse rolls over the small unassuming banner it expand to fill half the page, Grrrrr
I think that’s is enough for now.
Summary: a rant from me
