Advantages: Theraputic to write
Disadvantages: Boring to read. Soz!
If I were to cover ALL the things that should go into room 101 then I would be here all night, so this is just a selection of things that really wind me up.
I have to say first off that many of these have only come about since becoming a mother which I think makes you quite irrational in many ways.
1) People who cross the road without waiting for the little green man when I'm waiting to cross with my son. How am I meant to teach him road safety when he sees so many grown ups acting so irresponsibly. I always make a point of telling him how naughty that man/lady is being, in a nice loud voice so hopefully they hear and feel ashamed. Even worse is when they have kids with them themselves, especially when I see them nip between traffic with a pushchair. Risk your own stupid life if you have to, but our kids deserve better than that.
2) Similar to 1), drivers who stop across the crossings so that you cant cross even when the little green man is there!!
3)Children with suntans. Well not them, their rubbish parents. There is nothing I hate worse than seeing a young child in the middle of summer, no sun block, no sun hat (although i do sympathise with trying to make them keep these on!!), and looking like they've spent the last week on a sunbed. It's child abuse plain and simple. I think the police and social services should be able to take kids off their so called parents in the street for this.
4) People who ask 'is he good?' when you've just had a baby. I thought this the most bizarre thing ever when I had my son, having never been aware of it before. What am I expected to say? 'No, he snorts cocaine and mugs old ladies'??, or, 'Yeah he's already volunteered at the soup kitchen'?? I know they mean well but, no sorry it's just a strange question.
5) Kids telly that actually tries to make your kids stupid. I was watching this programme called 'Third and Bird' with my son on CBeebies and it was just kind of average rubbish, he was enjoying shouting 'BIRD!' at the screen, and it was giving me a two minute break from having to look at his books with him (constantly!!). Then all of a sudden a penguin flew in............. Nuff said!!
6) Shops without automatic doors that have their doors shut in the cold weather. I don't give a flying monkey if their staff are cold. Put a jumper on. I want to come in your shop, with my pushchair, with minimum effort. If I cant do that then I'll shop elsewhere.
7) All the shoe shops in the world whose ladies shoes stop at a size 8 (and that's most of them). Almost worse are those that have like two designs of hideous, unisex looking, 'ladies' shoes in a size 9 then act like you should be grateful for that. Yes I know I'm a freak, but I'm a freak with a shoe fetish. Forced to shop in the likes of Brantano's (expensive, and when they do have offers/sales on they tend not to have many of their larger sizes in them) or Evans (again quite expensive, and, seeming to aim their shoes at ladies with elephant feet, I am amazingly a size 7/8 in there)
Oh there's loads more, but I think that's enough of a rant for now. This is better than therapy.
Thanks for reading.
Summary: Random stuff that winds me up.

- 23/07/09 I know what you mean about people asking whether babies are 'good'! What a strange way of putting it!
Think your reaction to suntanned children is a bit extreme, mind! x |

- 09/03/09 I really think it's insane that you've said that children with suntans should be taken off of their parents. Some people are naturally tan and I know that even with suncream on, my family and I still tan. Being tan is no where near child abuse, sub burn on the other hand... |

- 09/12/08 You have given good arguments, but I am afraid that I agree with wigglylittleworm and jasminesarah - and no I don't have kids, but if the road is quite obviously clear of traffic and I need to cross, I shall do so, if there is a child waiting with its parents there or not. Like you say, its your choice to educate your child, and there are a lot worse things that your child could see during his daytime routine than a "naughty" adult crossing the road when the green man is not present!! Like your other choices though, it is horrible about access for pushchairs and wheelchairs. SHops should also be bigger, I find it frustrating when I cant get down any aislees due to pushchairs - not the fault of the mother - just a stupid design fault of the shop owners who want to cram as much in as possible! |
