Things I'd Banish To Room 101
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~
Introduction
~~~~~~~~
This Dooyoo discussion topic is just too much fun to pass over, so here's my tea time quickie list of four things which I'm utterly unrepentant about my dislike of ... Grrr!!! Lol!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Soaps; But Not The Cleaning Kind!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Soap operas I hate them all; you name it - Hollyoaks, Coronation Street, East Enders and any others I've missed. I've lost count of the times I've had to put up with my girlfriend, ex girlfriends, mom, sister, any other female friend watching this drivel on the TV...
I know a lot of people are really attached to the characters -but the plots are laughable, the acting's terrible and it becomes even more vomit filled when the soap operas try to gain credibility by 'tackling issues'... By 'tackling' they mean taking the easiest lamest plot line that leads to the most politically correct low IQ resolution.
Get ye into room 101 oh wicked and naff repetitive garbage soaps, and waste not my evenings again!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Local Councils; Got Power And We're Gonna Use It (Badly!)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If ever anyone knows how to waste public money while obtaining minimal results it's local councils. They'll give themselves big car parks while introducing parking fees and wardens for everyone else...
They'll spend a fortune on translating all their literature into every language under the sun, yet trying to get a sensible answer out of them in plain English is a near impossibility.
My local Councillor even rang round all the houses (including mine) to try and persuade us to vote Labour ... I can guess who paid for all the phone calls!!
So for employing wardens who'll swoop on old people who drop a bit of cigarette ash to issue a £70 fine, (while turning a blind eye to gangs drinking openly in alcohol free zones and indulging in antisocial behaviour),
For fining people for dropping litter into lamppost bins (when apparently you're supposed to carry it home; what are bins for then?),
and just for being power crazed and useless in general... It's into room 101 for you boys and girls of great influence in the council; and no you can't claim expenses for the trip there!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Politicians; An Anagram Of Solicit Pain!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Politicians; this slimy bunch really get on my wick too -lol!! The expenses scandal was no real surprise to me, I'm very bored of hearing the promises they make before any election, which of course they hardly ever get around to implementing once they're in power... who'd have thought -lol!!
I don't like them speaking for me either; they certainly very rarely represent the views of me or anyone I know -and as for ordering military action where large civilian casualties are an inevitable consequence (while still pussyfooting around dealing with terrorists at home); I'd like to shove the Mace so far up their.... (unprintable -lol!!)
Go on politicians, off with you to Room 101, and try not to leave a slime trail as you ooze towards the door!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
News Readers And Interviewers
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What is it with the trend over the past few years where tv journalists/presenters/interviewers etc have got to get their faces on the television and be mini celebrities?
I'm tired of watching supposedly serious interviews where the interviewer asks a question of the interviewee - then as soon as the interviewee starts talking, the camera quickly shoots to a solo shot of the interviewer nodding in agreement (or some other pointless gesture)...
Interestingly during these camera cuts to the interviewer, you can't see the interviewee at all... I'm very much of the opinion that these shots are mostly filmed after the interview has finished, and then added to the interview during the editing before broadcast...
Watch for these cut backs shots of the interviewer and you'll see what I mean... there's no proof that the interviewee is still in the room...
I think it's just a bit of an excuse to get the interviewer's face more TV exposure... But since it's a news program, I don't need to see who is doing the interview; it's just not relevent to the news item!!
Also I hate the way that any news announcer on location outside the studio will always, if alone, commence THE WALK!!
THE WALK, is especially popular on local news programs... Just watch for it as soon as they cut from the news studio to an outside location, and the (quite literally) roaming reporter will start to walk forwards...
There's no need for THE WALK, it's just there to add visual interest to a news story because the news channel think you are too dumb to be able to focus on the reporters words without lots of pretty pictures...
So, for patronising us and for taking every opportunity to get their faces on TV during an interview (in footage that's quite probably shot after the interviewee has gone -lol!)...
I banish thee tedious minor celebrity news readers (and their sub species the lesser spotted news interviewers) to Room 101... We can lure them there by promising to film their faces as they enter -that should do the trick -lol!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In Conclusion (Which Is Not An Anagram Of Inspector Clouseau)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I feel better now, but will probably be back to add more things every once in a while; such as why there's no specific word for the back of your knee -lol!!
Thanks for reading my little rant, and I hope you didn't take it too seriously (apart from the politicians and certain elements in local councils; I genuinely do hate some of them -lol!)
Why not compile your own list for the Room 101 discussion?
Best wishes,
Caveat Emptor
Hi everyone thanks so much for stopping by to comment;
Gentl eGenius, you're absolutely right - I actually saw the wardens administer the ash dropping fine while they kept well out of the way of the drunken gang (who were 30 ft away and in plain view), with my own eyes...
duncantorr I'm with you all the way on the presenters standing still and talking to camera... and your brilliant suggestion of reducing them to a voice over; you and I we can but dream of such a day -lol!!
Et to goosey? Lol!! It seems all of womankind is against me on my attempts to put soap operas into room 101...I'm telling my mom... oh no wait a minute she'll want me to take soaps out of room 101 too; I just can't win :-) ... Have pity; don't you realise that the theme tune to East Enders sends shivers down every man's spine -lol!!
Thanks everyone for all your ratings and comments; and I look forward to seeing your own Room 101 suggestions!!!
How I agree with you about the WALK. Utterly unnecessary and totally distracting. Why reporters and presenters can't just stand still and talk to camera is beyond me. Or, better still, just be a voice over while the camera shows the substance of the story.
