Advantages: Knowing you have helped an unfortunate animal
Disadvantages: Frustrating when nothing can be done
I cannot understand why people are so cruel to animals? It is beyond all comphrehension how people can brutally maim an animal whether it a pet rat or an horse, whatever the reason they did it there is never any justification. Without us and the R.S.P.C.A and other animal welfare orginisations those poor animals would suffer at the hands of more callous b******s. I have seen so much suffering throughout my life from neighbours to people who live near friends and although I have phoned the R.S.P.C.A nothing has ever come of it,apart from me getting involved physically with the pet owners when I couldn't stand watching the animal suffer day in day out. There was one time that I will never ever forget and I am sure this memory will haunt me until the day I die. Me and my mother were once visiting a friend on quite a rough estate in the next town from us. We were drinking our coffee outside as it was a lovely day when the dog outside kept screaming and yelping, alarmed me and mum asked the neighbour if this was the norm? Apparntely she was used to the crying (as if?) and was thinking of reporting the owners due to the fact that the dog was out in all weathers tied up 24/7. However the neighbours were out so myself and my mother climbed over the small garden fence to try and sooth the poor animal (which by now was so loud I thought it would get perferated ear-drums). Now what I saw next is the bit that will always remain with me,do not read on if of a very sensitive nature.... The dog cowered as soon as we approached it but we could do so easily as the poor thing was tied to a rope around 12 inches long, when we touched him he was so thin and matted and also covered in blood, when I ran my hands along his spine I felt 8 nails embedded into his back at this point I nearly died with horror and shock that;that was actually what I had felt. I got mum immediately to phone the police, vets and the R.S.P.C.A, they arrived fortunally in
good time and the dog was taken to emergency theatre where he was saved, but I am not sure if the poor thing was better off living after that ordeal but it was because he is now the proud owner of the name bluey and he lives very contented with my mum now... What happended to the owners? Well firstly they wanted to prosecute us for tresspassing but it was thrown out. The man got a life time ban and the woman is allowed pets after 5 years. But if she does I can guarantee I will be waiting,I will never ever let her or him own another pet,not even a goldfish. I have got many more experiences and I am not some goody-goody I just adore animals and think they should have the love and respect they deserve after all what more do they want and you would never get another best-friend like them. Update, I have recently found out that someone was breeding dogs in their spare bedroom and feeding them Turkey carasses (which he got from his job at an abatoir) and never letting teh poor dogs out. I reported them and would like to say that they have had ALL animals removed and these have been successfully re-homed with loving new owners and the couple in question are now in the middle of a prosecution investigation. I added this on because I would like people to realise that they CAN change things and help all those who need it! UPDATE NUMBER 2: I and why does it always happen to me? (although I am glad really) Yesterday I encountered a stray dog,it was covered in Mange,Fleas and obviousley had a Urine infection of some kind as it was yellow (well I will leave the rest to your imagination) and had sores all over it's belly poor thing. However I checked with the R.S.P.C.A to see if any were notified as missing? And phoned the local council. However they weren't able to come up with anything but did say they would collect the dog from me, but as luck would have it I bumpe
d into a lady outside our local co-op who said her dad was a trainer and he would take the dog in, ( I knew her!) So the dog that I will call Bert, has now got a nice new home. I just wish all cases would end up like this one. I phoned the woman today and she said that Bert is doing just swell with a nice hefty vets bill.LOL.
