Advantages: Could find the animal of your dreams

Disadvantages: All area offices should be run the same not individually

I thought that the RSPCA was a very animal friendly company that was definitely 'the people's vet'. In the last 6 months I have had 2 very different eyeopeners with this animal welfare centre.

When we purchased a Border Collie from a dog pound just out of our area it turned out to be vicious so it had to be returned. We returned it to the place that we had it from and when asked for a credit note to get one from our local dog's home was informed that different RSPCA offices act in various ways.

What this means is that the name RSPCA is all that it is, just a name. Each area has their own funding, rules and regulations. I grew up believing that they were all from the same company and acted all the same yet on returning our dog we informed that another was out of the question from another centre only where the dog was returned to.

So recently i visited my local RSPCA to be told on purchasing an 8-week old cross breed puppy that we had 21 days to change our mind and that if it didn't work out for any reason a refund could be issued or a cover note.

If RSPCA rehomes animals to worthy homes surely they should all have the same rules and regulations so as not to confuse those wanting to give a pet a new home.

Lastly may I add that finally I have the dog that I wanted from a caring company but when I think back to the dog we had to return I wonder, are they really classed as 'man's best friend'? or are they just another multi company wishing to be individual with the same name.

I often wounder why some people come into shelters thinking they can jus take the animal away and not have to sign or say anything, we have our fare ahre of agressive people, some whome do take action into thier own hands, and bring it upon themselves to force the rspca staff into agreeing with the adoptee, which some of you are unaware about. It isnt jus any old job, since i have been working with the rspca, i have been attacked by many animals and reptiles and people who want an animal but the staff have decided isnt the right animal for them
it was on a thursday around 3-ish. after my lunch when i had a very nasty incounter with a customer, he wanted a german sherpad, who was aproximatly 2 years old, but he had a baby and a 4 year old son, the german shepard wasnt a dog who was fond of loud noises and screems, as we assesed it. The man went bezerk and cuddnt understand why he couldnt have a fullygrown german sherpard which was very nervouse and didnt like loud noises, at the same time him also having a hyperactive son and a baby .....this was i can safley say a time when i though i had came across a man who coudnt put 2 and 2 together.

no mandy , on the contary you are wrong , there are strict rules and regulations in which all shelters of the rspca must follow, and rspca's are run by not the rspca its self, but comitiees, so if you have a compliant tell the comitiee of youre chosen shelter, and see what they have to say. Iam happy tho you have found the dog you wanted. And the name isnt jus any name, it does stand for somthing, which the rspca does actually do.

I have had some bad experiences with the RSPCA and do not rate them at all.
