Advantages: Amazing team spirit!!! :)
Disadvantages: SuperLeague took it over!!
Well I am coming at this from a Rugby League fan!!!! :-D From growing up in a League town of Widnes, I have always been a Vikings fan, and followed rugby league, and because of that, Union has never really been anything which I have followed.
Rugby League and Union aren't really much different if we're totally honest, the aim of the game is the same, and the set out of the pitch is the same, there are two teams of 13 team members in league and 15 in union each. The aim is for one team to get past the other to get a try, which is when the ball is touched down on the grass behind the try line, and then convert the try by kicking the ball over the goal posts from wherever the last interchange of the ball was before the try!
The points scoring are different and there are differences in play, but as a league fan, I have never ever followed Union and so I'm afraid I can't tell you what these differences are!
Rugby League is he best sport in the world...I love it! I used to always hate sport, until I got into watching the rugby with my mum and brother when I was about 13, which was 7 years ago, from the very first match I went to I was hooked, and went every week.
The thing I love most about Rugby League is the athmosphere, the fans all club together and really love their team, I know you can say this about any sport, but there is somethign about rugby leagues rawness that I adore! Unlike football where the shouting is aimed at oooh get the ball in the goal, oh fight fight fight or whatever, with Rugby League there is excitment the whole way through, whenever the ball is passed from one player to another, whenever the players move closer to the try line, the excitment of the chase!!! Its much rougher than any other sport out there, and alot rougher than Union which is I think what I like about it, the players get down and dirty, their shirts get ripped their faces get bloody and yet they carry on regardless!
A player who played for my team Widnes Vikings actually got a tooth stuck in his head during one match, he had been tackled and this players tooth had come out into his head, and he didn't even notice it, just carried on playing!!!!!!!! If a football player even breaks a fingernail he's on the floor crying about it!
I don't have anythign against Rugby Union, its just that I have never supported it and so League is and always will be my game of choice! My brother plays rugby Union, but still supports a League team as its just so much more exciting!!!!!!!!!!
The games are more alive, the players tend to be from the town they're playing for (or should I say in lower leagues this is true!) and they play for the team, and for the town rather than playing for the money!!!
One thing I don't like about League is the SuperLeague...! Sky sports ruined Rugby League by making the SuperLeague a big thing, the teams which play in the league don't tend to be made up of men from the town, but of Australians etc not that I have anything against them of course, but it takes something away from the game I feel!
But all in all rugby league is definitely my game, it always will be! I adore it, and my team, who no matter what I will support for life!!!!
WIDNES TIL I DIE, I'M WIDNES TIL I DIE, I KNOW I AM I'M SURE I AM
I'M WIDNES TIL I DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Summary: I will always be a Rugby League girl!!!

- 12/07/09 Good review, I agree it beats Union hands down. However I disagree about the super league. Im a saints fan and 18 out of our 31 man squad came through our academy. Other teams like Leeds have great home grown youngsters coming through. Without Super League RL would get even less media recognition than it already does x |
