Pete Sampras has shown little signs of the back problem so far. Pete Sampras has missed over 18 weeks of tennis in the past year because of injuries relating to his back problem, and his decision to not go ahead with a practice session with Tim Henman on Friday gave signals that he might withdraw.

Sampras insists that his age (29 in August) will not dampen his competiveness for the game. He seemed not to go for the difficult returns in order to salvage a point. Maybe he is warming up to it all. His serves remain awesome with tremendous power.

I think the end is getting near for Sampras, maynot not just now, but at this level it is closer than he thinks.
